I have not worked on a motorhome in the area you are needing help, but this I do know,
if the driveline were taken apart, the slide shaft part removed from the solid part, and
reinstalled in the wrong spline, You will have a problem. I did work at Kenworth Motor
Truck Company here in Seattle. I had many jobs, drive lines and the drive line for the
steering shaft to the steering gear box both have U joints that are aligned. If they are
not, I got my butt chewed. I was told it created binding and vibrations if not aligned on
"arrows" on both parts. I will not say you have arrows, but the U joints have to be the
same "to the clock" with each other.

Subject: [Diesel-RVs] Re: unknown vibration when coasting
: Hi everybody.
: A previous poster asked if the motorhome was towed and that perhaps
: the drive shaft was reinstalled out of sinc.
: I have a slight vibration at the rear as well and my 1998 Dutchstar
: was towed last summer when I lost all the oil in the engine due to a
: blown gasket in the internal oil cooler of the cat 3126 engine.
: I thought about the drive shaft installation causing the vibration
: but now I wonder if there are match marks on the drive shaft ,the
: tranny and the rear axle housing. It would not surprise me if there
: were any, but how would one find them and are the usually matched.
: Or on the other hand is the drive shaft including the universal
: joints balanced when innitially installed.
: Has anyone ever checked into this and would they share the results
: please.

: > My first guess would be U-joints. I have a 2002 Ultimate
: Advantage with 32,000 miles on it. Just came back from Myrtle Beach
: and started to get a vibration / roar. I did not think U-joints as
: they had been lubed more frequently than called for. Took to
: Cummins South --- ended up being a U-joint. The grease distribution
: channels had a defect in the making of the U-joint. Even though
: they were greasing them as called for, the grease was not getting
: where it should be going. They replaced both U-joints and the
: noise / vibration went away.
