[diesel_mercedes] Pre OverhaulTurbo Evaluation ?

Thanx Fellas ;

I used that kit and impeller the last time too, the kit came with useless tools and worthless picks plus the manual was missing pages so this time I bought the kit from 'go pop' ~ an American company but they don't really know the Garret T3's well as they want me to give them a tag # (T3's don't have any tags) before they'll sell me the impeller.... dammit .

Yes, my thrust here is to get rid if the E.G.R. and A.I.R. manifolds entirely ~ I already have them .

I was able to clean out all that oily gunk easily using the SAMS CLUB de greaser I've mentioned before ~ it works fantastic .

I don't have a good connection to be watching videos, I'd like to know what it is I'm supposed to measure, something I can print out and use as a cheat sheet .

TIA,

-Nate

I went with the Mercedes Source kit, too.  And, his impeller shaft.

I can't think of anything to measure before you begin the tear-down, except maybe the pressure at the which the waste gate opens.  Marking the positions of the housing pieces relative to the main body helps speed the process along.  And try to not use an impeller housing that has that stupid blow-off valve.

If your engine has been saddled with EGR, it's likely the intake manifold is gummed up with a semi-solid, black greasy substance.  Might be a good time to remove the manifold and clean it out.  I soaked mine in MEK, and managed to clean it up pretty well.  If you don't like messing with it (and I wouldn't blame you), take it to a machine shop and have it "hot tanked",

(The intake ports will likely also be fouled by this black goo.)

Hi gang ;

I want to overhaul a Garret T3 turbocharger and some one here mentioned measuring some part of it first ~ I don't know what nor how to measure the turbo's parts, I expect to buy a new impeller shaft and have three old turbos I'd like to measure and cherry pick the best parts from, any help or details, links etc. will be greatly appreciated .

TIA,
