Nate – thanks for sharing this.   Where was this held?  I visit Socal about once a month, and like to

plan my visits for car stuff usually and family.

I had a thing for Spainish bikes – Ossa, and especially Montesa.  Tha latter I raced in Socal when there

were tracks in OC!!

Are you going to the LA Roadsters?  Always a good time at the swap meet.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Project Car

Actually, a small block chevy can be had with more power and would avoid what a see is the major disadvantage of dealing with the approximately $3,000 worth of electronic engine controls.  I'm probably not going to spend the cash to go that route, and I'm no longer inclined to play musical engines myself, so I'll probably improve my '85 SD with as much of the interior as I feel like switching over, and let the rest go.

Dang Al ;

I'm sorry to hear this .

FWIW , these engines are cheap used and swapping one in would be the *perfect* time to replace all those myriad rubber seals , grommets and do-hickies Mercedes has every where , leaving you with a bullet proof fine luxury automobile....

Most have the duplex timing chains and so won't have this problem .

Or , just act fast and buy the parts you need for your old tank .

My 1987 560SEL swallowed its timing chain and I don't plan on rebuilding the engine.It's a 200M mile car in very good shape with no appreciable rust. The car spent most of its life in a heated garage in NJ.  It is now in southern Delaware.  The whole car is available or I'll part it out.  Obviously most of the components would fit a 300 or even a 350 SD.  All of the engine electronics and accessory items are also available.  Payment by Paypal.  If you need something, let me know with your zip code so I can figure shipping.  We can then arrive at a price.
