[diesel_mercedes] Re: hard downshift when in D (from 4-3 gear)

No vacuum leaks (as far as i know, locks work, engine shuts off ect). levels on tranny fluids are fine.

this started right after i had the motor mounts replaced. not sure what they could have done to cause the hard down shift?

Interesting ;

He begins showing & raving about a lovely China Blue one but then the show is about some old Champagne colored one .

The 230 E is a fair bit of a slug , thankfully they didn't offer it in the U.S. as we'd have ground them to dust on our high speed roads .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] hard downshift when in D (from 4-3 gear)

I'm assuming that there's no vacuum leaks, door locks etc, as a vacuum
leak can cause it to shift harshly. My current tranny shifts better then
the old one I broke, though still has a few clunks at different speeds
and accelerations. I found the modulator can soften one shift point to
just right, while another shift point might then be too soft or flare.
This is more dealing with up shifts. I'm unsure with down shifts.

How's the fluid?

[diesel_mercedes] Minor Miscellaneous Tasks

Wow, ordered stuff from Autohaus on Wednesday, and got it on Thursday - fast. So now begins the spring maintenance and I am beginning to feel like Max - how much longer am I going to crawl under the cars and change the oil on these beasts? But today, here is the schedule for Mary & Martha:

1. Semi annual Oil & Filter change (16 quarts of Rotella from Walmart @ $50 - I remember getting 50 gallon drums and cranking a quart when needed - think the cost was $15-$20 for the 50 gallon drum.
2. Drain the radiator on Mary and put in MB orange juice. Will do Martha in November.
3. New primary fuel filters for both cars.
4. New glow plugs for Mary, although may wait for reamer to see if carbon build up is shortening life. Strangely, Martha has a wait time of about 3-5 seconds, but Mary has a wait time of 20 seconds and sometimes doesn't "clunk" at all.
5. Change rubber muffler donuts on both cars, and twist one coat hanger loop as insurance on each muffler.
6. See if I can spot where Mary's oil leak comes from (I buy $1 bag of cat litter every 3 months but that is getting old). Ditto for Martha's trannie leak.
7. Check and change fuses on both cars.
8. Photo all the accumulated PAP parts in both cars and home so I can remember what I have.
9. Take a look at my wifes seat (Martha) to see why it slips when I sit in it. Also, look at the trannie shifter to see why it is not locking in park. Maybe take the door panel off and replace the map case (repaired with Goop) with a pristine one found at a PAP. See if I can shave a little rubber from the recently replaced door seal which now requires some muscle to close.

Why put all these things in a list? Well, age is a funny thing. Sometimes you just have to write things down so you can check back.
