Registration fees too and we're close to the highest vehicle registration fees in America already .
The piss off thing is ; we've okayed previous ' road use ' tax increases and EVERY TIME they've been raided for general budget use so no, I am NOT in favor of every increasing these fess again because WE ALREADY PAID IN FULL .
Back to the fuel 'fun' : after I signed off yesterday morning I drove to the Junk yard and discovered they've cut back the operations hours by TWO HOURS and don't open until 9AM ~
this isn't good for those Working Class schlubs and Professionals who use them as a primary parts source....
I tried one other yard, same thing so I gave up and drove to Upland, Ca. where the annual Unique Little Car Show was to begin @ 9AM, ran out of fuel again just before my exit, (makes four times in one outing) filled the pony tank and headed to Upland, parked and ran into Tom about 8AM, took him to breakfast while they set up the show, looked at lots and lots of really weird, cool and unusual vehicles like the " IFA " that turned out to be a pre war DKW but made by Communists in East Germany after the Berlin Wall went up ~ being a pre war design, it had a (cheaper to make) two piece flat glass split windshield .
Also lots of Crosbys, American Austin Bantams, Metropolitan Nashes, Morris Minors, a few Austin Minis, Lloyd, GoGoMobil, others I can't remember the names of .
I'd expected to see some of you alls there but didn't .
Tom and I headed off to the Junk Yards after they opened and I spent the rest of the day harvesting parts and trying to find a decent driver's seat for his 1981 Mercedes W126 S-Klasses .
Got home @ sun set, showed and passed out.
Back to it this morning I jacked up my Coupe and discovered the final drive has a leak and had very little oil in it (no wonder it was noisy) and a great deal of SWARF on the two rare earth magnets I added a while ago, draned the housing and cleaned the magnets, re filled it with EP90 Gear Oil and then I discovered I'd broken my Diesel injector tester
so I did a quick compression test of the cylinder I thought was weak, it shows 360# cold, that's not great but not bad either, I replaced that cylinders injector with a freshly rebuilt one and it still shakes @ hot idle and shoots cute little puffs of black smoke (un burned Diesel fuel) out the exhaust in rhythm to the engine's soft miss .
As long a the back of the car was up in the air, I removed the main fuel tank's HUGE screen, it was very clean, putting my finger in the 42MM open hole I found very little evidence of dirt or fungus so maybe I'll replace all he injectors and re connect the main fuel tank next ? .
At that point I was done, still tired from Saturday's marathon, cleaned up and tried to go see my Sweet, the R.F. tire went flat a block from the freeway.....
_After_ I buy one new tire to replace the dead one I think I'll take Monday off .
The attached photo is of the dark, contaminated Diesel fuel from Chevron, Tom says ' let it settle out overnight and see, it'll be fine ' ~ I asked if he wanted me to pour it into _his_ Mercedes and oddly, he declined .

I bet you are not too thrilled to hear that CA is raising the taxes on diesel fuel by 30¢ a gallon this coming November.
