Mike,
DO NOT encourage your sister to buy this car.
THEN, inquire WHY your sister, who "ain't mechanically minded" would want to buy "an older Mercedes".
The MOST EXPENSIVE car anyone can buy is a "cheap, older Mercedes".
These are wonderful vehicles, built with care by people who understand sophisticated engineering, after being designed by people who wallow in sophisticated engineering challenges.
These are cars which can run forever, but ONLY IF they are constantly maintained by people who know what they are doing. They are ONLY cars for mechanical hobbyists. If you (or your sister) have to pay mechanics to diagnose and fix problems, the car will INSTANTLY become a money pit.
I am the voice of experience with a 1981 300SD, and share the travails of my brother Nate (a frequent poster on the forum) with his 240D, 300CD and 300TD cars, all of the same vintage and model line (123 chassis) as the 300D. I LOVE these cars (not so much the 240D). But anyone who buys one, expecting someone else to do the work, is going to be very disappointed, and very much poorer in short order.
NOTICE that the car you are linking to doesn't even have a STARTER, so there is no way to check how the engine runs or how the car drives.

Hi. I need a big favour from the group. My sister is looking to buy an older mercedes but is not so sure what to look for. I have found one in her area but she ain't mechanically minded and is afraid of biting more than she can chew. Here is the car ad. http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-trucks-1981-Mercedes-300D-W0QQAdIdZ507311076 . Do we have any members on this forum from this area or so?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
