Don't give up - there is someone out there for whom that car is waiting. A special person, perhaps.

Well ;

This is the one you alls have been reading about me rebuilding foir the last few years ,it has a brandy new servo (aluminum body of course) along with God alone knows what other stuff , the dash is cracked and the original seats tired but not ripped etc.

It does need a new heater core .

I just cannot deal with hordes of strangers trooping past my house looking for whatever they can steal when the return late that night....

Someone here please buy it before I send it to the crusher just to get rid of it .

If I had $2500.00, I would buy it! The extra $500 is to fly myself out there, drive back with a friend or one of my sisters, and fly them back. That's what I did with my '78 300CD. I paid $1000 for that one over 5 years ago, and it needed new engine and tranny mounts, front seats and dash, glass grommets, side window gaskets, and, of course, the ACCI servo. It did have ice cold AC, and, with some fiddling, I got the heat to work when it needed to. It had a great body and tight suspension, should have kept that thing!!!!!

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel Milage Check 1984 300CD Auto W/ AC

And, piggy backing further, two rains ago I had moisture in Mary's trunk, but last 2 days of rain = no moisture. Another Mercedes mystery. But not as great as my disappearing loud "whang, bang, clang" noise (on a 6% grade). Has only happened 3 times (twice to Las Vegas, once to San Marcos). Someday I will get serious about it, maybe when I head for Las Vegas in June.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] W-123 Park Brake Light & Release

I only use my park brake once every year or two so I am not very smart about such things. One thing I do know - old people should not walk dogs - friend Duane had hip surgery Saturday morning in some hospital near Pico cuz his dog leash tripped him up and his femur did a "Max" job on him.

FWIW ;

The park brake warning light is a separate light from the low pads / hydraulic failure light . that one is red .

Has anyone here ever suffered the park brake release knob dragging or sticking ? .

My '84 Coupe's began dragging and in a week or three , stayed pulled out making the park brake unreliable .

To night I held it pulled out with one hand and rubbed the black plastic shaft with a clean paper towel , I was amazed at how much crud , dry crumbly stuff , stuck to the towel .

After a few repeats of this between working the knob in and out a few times , it turned glossy black again and freed up again .

Weird .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Hard starting black puff when starting.

Reamer yes ,also replace pre chambers when they get all full of carbon & crud .

Nate R. explained this a while back , I've never needed to do it .

I's suggest checking your glow plugs , do it the easy / accurate way , not by taking it all apart .

Also , the glow plugs continue to heat after the lamp goes off , try waiting 10 seconds after the GP lamp goes out then try crankinbg the starter , this makes a world of difference in cold weather .

Also , it's prolly time to adjust your valves again , maybe add some Cetane boost , this also helps a lot .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: 240D parking brake light switch?

Yes , it has a yellowish light at the bottom edge of the dash binnacle .

The park brake switch should be near the top of the park brake ratchet assy.

Hard to reach . test by grounding the wire , if the lamp lights , the switch is prolly dirty & in need of cleaning .

I replaced the bulb with a known good one but it still doesn't work. I did have the key in the 'on' position. Next step is the brake switch. I looked under the dash near the pedal and didn't see anything that looked like proper switch. There's no mention of it in my Hanyes manual and I couldn't find anything on this group and through internet searches. The light DOES turn on when the p-brake is applied with this car, right?

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Replacing B2 Piston on W124 Diesel 1987 TD

I'd use a slab of plywood the same size as the tranny's pan , the gusseting should prevent any denting .

Also , stop now and take the time to de grease & wash the body tunnel and tranny side as _one_ bit of road grime will kill the tranny and you're going to be rubbing the backs of your hands on the body tunnel
whilst the tranny is open....

I have removed the 4 bolts on the cross bar that holds up the transmission. In order to drop the transmission further in order to access the B2 Piston cover I believe I need to disconect the transmission from the drive shaft. This is accomplished by undoing the flexidisk bolts.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : New starter 82 240D

Fun , wasn't it ? .

Tom and I went through this on his W-126 SD on an out of state road trip , I too agreed the rebuilt starter with new solenoid made more sense .

I'da prolly kept the old starter were it my own car .

Could you be more specific as to how it ' crapped out ' ? .

Jim wrote:

That opened up an exit hole with less than an eighth of an inch to spare. Oh, I momentarily forgot these cars are metric. I had 2mm to spare.
