I've been meaning to go check out a 1985 240D in the closest Pick-A-Part  to me for over a month and I finally did it yesterday and boy am I glad I did ~ they were beginning to empty that row as I walked in  .

The car in question was pretty rough, leaking quite a bit of oil (the front brake pads were soaked) and it had apparently died on a freeway and  been impounded .

Oddly it wasn't heavily stripped so I tested the brakes and they were fine, I took the front ATE brand calipers, $ 57 out the door, core charge included . they wanted $18 more for the oily brake pads (!) so I removed them and left them there .

I've been wanting to get away from the original BENDIX calipers for a while now, since I needed to buy new calipers this seemed to make sense ($) to me .

As I was doing that I noticed it's a NON EGR model so I harvested the complete non ERG intake and exhaust manifolds plus the air cleaner can as the one on my car is developing cracks . $24 for the air cleaner, $ 90 for the manifolds, they included the support bracket .

As I was poking around the interior I noticed new hardware holding the HVAC blower in place and remove it ~ bingo ! a brandy new BOSCH one, paid $26 for it, it will go into my gray market '84 300TD .

I also crawled up underneath the oily & dripping thing and took the '81 /82 240D only center engine support apart to see how it works, it's adjustable and I hope I can figure out how to adjust it so the incredible engine vibrations stop telegraphing to the body .

It looks to me that I can support the car off the ground, lock the rear wheels and let it run in gear whilst I adjust the bracket, gotta work safely you know ~ the vibration is horrible .

They were out of shopping carts so I used a provided wheelbarrow and tossed all the hardware bits, engine support brackets and so on in the bottom of it, they gave me all that along with an undamaged fuse box cover, the one on my '84 300CD shattered recently (?!?) .

Then I cleaned up and headed to the truck section where I found and purchased a Ford factory 6 disc CD player for my new old Ranger for $34, no core, no warranty , including the bid dash bezel that included a factory fog lamp switch, I took the plugs and harness' too .

I'd been looking for the factory single disc CD player , this was too good to pass up . I hope it works, there's a BIG YELLOW STICKER in it saying : careful when installing, scrap if dropped .

Not too bad for a half day's work .
