Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel Milage Check '82 240D Auto AC Used
Yes, not a problem. I believe Nate concurred in another post that both Textron and Seafoam are good products.
Michael, I use Textron in spark ignition engines. It seems to help a
little. Is OK to use in diesels? Bobby--

Re: [diesel_mercedes] 1982 300D for sale - California car
Looks nice. good luck with the sale!
Hi all-
I have decided to sell my 82 300D turbo and thought I would mention this to you guys first in case anyone is interested. I am selling it as I recently inherited two classic cars and now have too many cars. Prior to this I planned to keep this car indefinitely so have cared for it accordingly. The car runs well - starts right up, shifts crisply, coolant temp around 80 degrees, full oil pressure by 1300 rpm or so when fully warmed up. AC is cold.
Some further details:
-Mileage: 202k
-Purchased new in Oakland CA in September of 1982
-Purchased by me from the original owner (a friend of my father) in September of 1996
-Always garaged since new
-California car with no rust and with original blue license plates
-All service records from new as well as stamped service bookets
-China blue paint all original except hood and front fender tops which were re-done after a minor accident in 1985 and re-sprayed again in 1999. One small section of crows footing on hood but barely noticeable.
-Blue MB tex without any tears or rips-One very small dash crack (not from sun, but from someone "resting" a camera on the dash)
-Everything works except cruise control
-Factory Becker Europa with working tape deck and Becker-installed ipod adaptor
-Recent work includes radiator and water pump, alternator, belts, upper control arms, front brake pads, vacuum shut off.
-Oil changed every six months, brake fluid changed every year, coolant changed every other year. -Recent oil and filter change, brake fluid change, coolant change, trans fluid/filter change, valve adjustment, fuel filters, and power steering filter.
-Michelin X radials front and rear with approx 10k on them
-Front disks and starter around 190k
-Minor oil leaks but does not drip and does not require oil between changes (usually around 1500 miles)
I am happy to answer any more questions and/or email more photos. The car is located in San Francisco. I am asking $4000.
Take care,
Andrew

My 1982 300SD runs great but has suddenly started to stall at idle. The idle is around 750. The engine just stalls. I turn the key it starts up and runs fine. I have replaced all of the filters including the tank screen. thanks for your help. bob
Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : Footwell Water Collection
I haev owned numerous of the 123 cars with this problem. If it is not rotten rocker panels, then it is usually the windshield seal or rot from under the battery tray that is contributing to the indoor swimming pool.
Max ;
I sure hope you're not suggesting he drill drain holes ! .
That's the very worst solution as the open holes allow the _inghress_ of water tossed up from the tires and so promote rusting and ruination of the entire vehicle .
Guess how I learned this 40 + years ago ? .
I also learned the water is *very* elastic so the drain holes must be much larger then you'd think , further negating their usefullness .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel Milage Check 1984 300CD Auto W/ AC
Sounds like valve seals or a valve adjustment.
O.K. , we drove (I drove , she rode , stop nit picking) to Las Vegas for the weekend , bumper to bumper stop and go traffic all the way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas _AND_ back again , GRrrr........
I had the AC on full tilt boogie the entire time , lots and lots of idling when I'd run into some store or whatever and SWMBO would sit in the idling car with the AC going.....
First tank 423 miles 27.2 MPG
Second tank 380 miles 27.4 MPG .
I still have about 1/3 a tank to finish yet .
The engine is beginning to smoke more than I like , oil smoke , light blue and it uses a quart of oil before 400 miles , not correct .
It also blows out a cloud of black fuel smoke every time I leave a dead stop .
Stay tuned , I'll be dipping into it pretty soon .
The intake fuel screen remains clean , I've been using 4 Oz. of Startron and 4 Oz. of MMO each fillup .
That's it , I'm beat & going to bed , see if I can make it to work to - morrow or not .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Engine Vibration at Idle
Motor mounts typical go bad on these older Mercedes, specifically the drvier's side since it usually get saturated with diesel fuel when changing the in-line fuel filter.
I did not drive my '82 300D for a week. When I went back to driving it again, the engine now vibrates pretty bad. I can see the hood shake. I did swap out the injectors with my other 300D so I know it's not that. I attempted the rack damper adj, but no noticeable change (vibration wise). Any Idea for next?

know it is very black which would make one suspect "colloidal graphite"
which fills pitted valves, keeps all metal to metal contact to a minimum
and adheres to metal surfaces. I have used a similar product for 40
years that I know contains colloidal graphite and is no longer available
so I make my own version.
I have never used MMO but it is starting to sound very good.

Does anyone know/suspect what the principal ingredient in MMO is? I
know it is very black which would make one suspect "colloidal graphite"
