[diesel_mercedes] Rubber Produtcs , Winwods Etc.

Dexter ;

I've been a German car mechanic for over 40 years and I can tell you one thing for certain :

ALWAYS use the OEM German made rubbers ! at the very least on the windshield and back glass grommets .

I know the price differential is large but trust me here ~ the cheaper ones don't last long and after they begin to leak in a tear or two in spite of always parking inside your garage so they don't get much sun , you'll be seriously P.O.'d .

I see someone else had already posted Tom's E-mail , also a like to Peach Parts who also sells original Mercedes rubber , Tom @ The Classic Center will be the better price once you figure in shipping and it'll be faster and fresher too .

I'm a (damn) Yankee Farm Boy born and bred so when I get up off a dime , you can believe it's well worth every penny .

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel Soot

I dunno max ~

Until recently the 240D never smoked and didn't accumulate smoot on the back of the car atall .

Back in the 1960's I remember the buses belching out dense black clouds and was always told , even by the SMOG guys , that Diesel smoke was inert , almost completely soot .

I hate the smoke and smoot but a well tuned diesel engine doesn't smoke unless you force it to by full throttle under load .

my '84/'85 Europen wagon goes like stink and never soots at all .

I wonder how many folks we are knocking off driving our cars. I have noticed when I wash my rear windows the paper towel comes out black. Max ps, still driving my 2 240's

I need the black plastic cover that hides the vacuum switches on top of the rocker box .

It is slightly different from the OM617's I have spares of .

Also , one of the throttle rods is maybe  damaged , it appears to be designed to extend a bit but it's been jammed .

" Idle Path Rod " .

I'd love some decent diagrams for the 1982 240D's switchover valves , not in my factory service manual .

As always , I will travel to get these parts , pay for them and take them off your greasy old junk engine or dig through your parts boxes....

TIA ,

- Nate

[diesel_mercedes] Power Service ' Diesel Kleen '

I use it always on the '82 240D because it helps the worn out engine with low compression run *much*  better and improves throttle response in every diesel engine I add it too , raises the fuel economy noticeably .

Do you use the Power Source stuff all the time? Is that the stuff that comes in two different jugs, one has cetane booster and the other one maybe for anti jelling? Why do you use this stuff? Max

WHEEEEEEEE !

I was checking my oil and ATF etc. this morning and noticed the primary fuel screen was once again clear , not a bit if crud in it .

YAY , at long last .

Now I can run the tank dry and add my usual Power Service " Diesel Kleen " additive , I don't when I'm using Startron to chase and  clean out fungus .

Maybe an oil and filter change this weekend .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Parts

No I have not tried Tom Hanson. Could you give me a little more info on how to contact him. My car is a W110. I don't have the VIN off hand but I could dig it up.

Hi Dexter ;

Have you tried Tom Hansen at the Mercedes Classic Center ? .

They're very good at soft parts no one else has .

He'll need your VIN off the chassis / registration .

What is the chassis designation of your '67 ? . a W108 ? knowing this helps to find parts .

Hey my name is Dexter and I have a 1967 200D. I put in all new brake lines, callipers, beaker master, clutch master and clutch slave. I want to use this car as my daily driver (mainly to and from school). Right now I am working on replacing the front wheel bearings and tightening the steering box. The car needs new window and door seals, but I have no idea where to look for them. Thanks.
