Hot water gets inside electrical things it shouldn't & causes corrosion & failure$ .
Having a clean undercarriage , is a wonderful thing indeed .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : 300TD 123 SLS Control valve
It's a nifty little hydraulic valve connected to the rear suspension and the hydraulic hoses operating the hydropneumatic Self Leveling System most all W-123 station wagons are equipped with .
It lives way up underneath the rear kickup where black widow spiders & mud dauber wasps like to live......
Not a fin thing to access even when working on clean cement .
They're rebuildable @ home *if* it's not so corroded it breaks as you take it apart .

It is likely that by this point you have flooded it ~ yes , Diesels do flood .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Start Tron Fungicide & Tank Sludge
Interesting but , I call BULLSHYTE ~ I had more fungus in my '84 Coupe's fuel tank than I've ever seen in anything and it is all gone now ~ when I removed the fuel sender I peered in with a flashlight and I put my finger in the 46 MM hole in the bottom of the tank when I had the in take screen out for cleaning ~ it is spotless .
Don't trust it if you like but I will .
I was looking at my underhood intake screen just to - day and it's cystal clear still .
I think this is a very good discussion and I appreciate your link Brian .

If you want to use a used part ;
There's a very clean but badly wrecked W-126 gasser in the P-A-P in Gardena on Vermont just South of the 91 freeway.....

AND since youre so excited, don't forget to be wearing CLEAN UNDERWARE just in case you do flip your car on one of those Calif/ freeways or tollways. You know, you never know. Max

But, it really was just a steam cleaning at the car wash at San Gabriel Blvd. and Mission Ave. If my car ever tips over on the freeway (saw one this morning), I will not have to be embarrassed because I can see original metal again. Clean enough to eat on. Well, of course it was steam cleaned so I can crawl under the car and push, pull, wiggle, and move parts to see what needs fixing.

Seems like there is someone on this board that is not a fan of steam cleaning. What's the downside?

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Garage Queen 240D Update
I did test the plugs out of the car and they were both clean and tested OK. Also put power to them via a jump pack and they all glowed nicely. I picked up a compression tester last night and will hopefully perform that check this weekend. Any hints or tips about performing the compression check – this will be the first time I’ve done it.

....This is why I "check in" with you guys.
Looks like Rusty is "out" of them.. I'll have to call him..
Thanks for the tip.. I need "sunroof lube" since I want to fix that, too...
