Wow!  That's great!  The last time I had to get a vane-type fuel pump for a Mercedes they were ten-times those prices from my wholesaler.  List was over $550!  But, then again, there was no ebay 30-years ago....

I know of more than one W108 chassis car in decent, not perfect, but not bad condition, that were scrapped for want of an expensive fuel pump.

Probably.  Though for much less than new, I'd try to source one from a salvage yard, if possible.  116s just don't show up in the yards like they used to.  A pump from a 107 (70's SL) should work, too.
