[diesel_mercedes] But , It's _NOT_ Cold !

# 1 Son and I drove out to The Antelope Valley this morning early in search of old Chevy truck parts & wheels, I stopped into a gas station in Rosamond to check the oil and so forth , loose my morning coffee & decided to squeegee my dusty windshield ~ as I reached for the squeegee in it's bucket , I was amazed to see it was frozen . then I noticed my son standing with his Pendleton shirt buttoned right up , hands in pockets shivering .

I asked him " Is it cold ? " as I was wearing short shirt sleeves & a tank top and didn't feel cold atall .

He said yes Dad , it's freezing out here let's go inside , and gave me " The Look " ......

[diesel_mercedes] Re: 300 TD water in the left rear light housing.

Yep ;

There's plastic squeeze clips , they're easy to snap off too .

Once it's apart , don't be surprised to find the bulb holders are melted from DPO's putting in the wrong taillight bulbs , brighter illuminatio means MUCH more heat & there's no where for the heat to go so they melt .

Use tissue paper and maybe a long soft brush to clean out the lens via the bulb hole once you've ruined , er _removed_ the bulb holder ~ take the entire lens to the Kitchen sink and have at it , really wash it out well then shake dry and allow to air dry with the open bulb holes facing _down_ so the water gets out fast as possible .

I use # 631 bulbs as they last longer and do not overheat the fragile bulb holders .

Clean the body's recessed lip and then use clear silicone to seal the edge of the lamp to the body as the gasket is dried up and costs an arm & a leg from Mercedes .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Mazatlan

Actually ;

I'd been thinking about this quite a bit after I posted & signed off....

Mercedes liked to paint the lower panels a grey or silverish color .

glossy paint there means easier cleanup and less adherence of Road Smutch in the first place .

The guy got the scratches I inflicted out (missed one on roof) Next will get the lower body painted to fix a couple of rust areas, front under the bumper & just in front of the rear wheels. The car is silver with black interior. gonna paint up to the rub strip - OK what color do I paint it?

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Fuel Prices Drop

Usually diesel prices go up in winter in the places that get winter. Cold weather = winter diesel which used to mean 50% #1 diesel mixed with 50% #2 diesel which made winter diesel that was good down to about -20 degrees which was higher priced. A few years ago the local fuel distributor told me they had a new way to formulate winter diesel which did not use #1 diesel/stove oil which is higher priced. So did the winter price stop going up? Nope. Max in the north country which is having a very mild no snow December, still having green grass.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Fuel Prices Drop

I'm seeing slight drops in diesel which is unusual when cold weather causes competition from the heating oil demand. The price typically goes up. Then again, I didn't see to much of a decline last spring when warmer weather came. We export a lot of diesel which further props up the price. The idea of an export tariff sounds pretty good right now.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: In Car Techniques for Non-Stoppers

You know the engine may be shutting off due to increased vacuum caused by revving the engine. Having it in gear could be n/a to what's going on. Faster engine RPM = more vacuum that might overcome the leak you have somewhere. That leak should be really easy to find.

I bet you can fix the problem faster and easier than rigging a temporary solution.

[diesel_mercedes] 300 TD water in the left rear light housing.

I noticed when my wife took off the other night that the left rear marker was dim.  Also the left turn signal was intermittent.  so I take out the spare tire and two nuts and out it comes with a gush of water.  The weep hole in the marker was good but enough gunk had built up to make a good seal and the light canister was full of water.  Now I think I should take it all apart and spray wd 40 in there.  Anything to stop corrosion.  HOw do you take out the light fixtures.  I see the clips but I'm afraid to move them and break them.  Lawrence Rhodes......
