Re: [diesel_mercedes] Rubber donuts

Hose clamps also work.  and they are a lot easier to tension.

give Tom Hanson a call this week and get the encased chain donuts
shipped to my door. Thanks for the reminder Brian.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : W-123 Door Window Service

Replaced the driver side window mechanism to day using the one from the bear wagon, took a while but managed not to break anything except one of the arm rest threaded clips, & just took one off the old door.
Max what broke was the rivet that holds the arm on the final gear the third one out from the motor. Now after 6 mos we have all windows working.

Got the liner off and the mechanism out & tested. Should be pretty straight forward to install it in my car now & have the spare nylon clips from the old door if some break.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Battery problems

Six years ago I put a pair of batteries in the engine room of my bus, right beside the muffler, the first one failed a year ago, I replaced them both this year. The house batts are 6 X 6 Volt golf cart batts that are now 8 years old and they are doing ok.
The engine batts were Northern a Canadian manufacture, the house batts are Exides. Have been happy with these brands.

My 59 190D(55hp) would go very fast, it just took a while to get there. It would cruise at 65, very steady, just did not like stopping fast. Was this guy old, or maybe just off the farm?Max

Bubba--the front doors on the wagons are identical to those on the sedans. The rear doors differ.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Older Mercedes

Nate,

Under 55, unless it needed suspension work, that's way too slow unless
on a hill.

When I was moving back east, many years ago, I had my over loaded Toyota
truck, pulling an overloaded trailer from CA to RI, I knew if I made it
the 1st night over the pass, I'd make it all the way. I did make it, but
boy was it slow on the hills, as cars flew by as if I was stopped.

Today, I want to see why the exhaust sounds more noisy than usual.
Hopefully not an exhaust leak. I'll check the donuts, as well as my
extra parts stash, to see if I have any replacements. I'm not shy about
using a clothes hanger for a bit.

My 1961 190Db is ok at 55mph. Rather ineffective above that.  Bill in Corvallis

My first car was a MB 180 b. I made several trips a year between Miami and North Carolina, where I went to college, on 95 and I never had a problem keeping up with traffic.

I do not specifically remember trying to see how fast it would go but I had it close to 90 a time or two.
