It's because it's *NOT* a minor vacuum leak ! .
Fix it and the other slow leaks and all will be well again _and_ , the doors will self unlock in the morning.....

Yes I know this but , it's a long bed and takes a lot of space to turn around ~ just to - day I had to reverse it to make a U - Turn in a divided four lane road.....
If it was a shortbed ,I'd not worry and just keep it as I *do* like it a lot .
Maybe I can donate it for a decent tax writeoff as it runs fine and has much new stuff on it ? .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : A Thought
Well yeah ;
I'd thought that part was _obvious_ some time ago .
The thing is : I like these older InLine 6 Banger trucks , as I was looking at a different one to purchase , I was offered a 1992 Chevy 1500 V-6 (ick) with all the basic trimmings , AC , PS & auto tranny , in VGC all for $1,500 , I didn't give it much thought .
I *did* see some older Mercedes' here & there on my trip , in Iforgetwhatstate I saw a clean white fintail parked outside a Mexican junkyard , hopefully it'll be saved .

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: W123 240D Vacuum leak, then no vacuum at all.
I would wager that one of the hard plastic tubes/lines running in that rubber conduit (where the hissing was coming from) has broken wide open.

The leak got bigger.
The different vacuum systems are separated by one-way valves, so one leak might not take out the whole system just yet.
When you can, follow the vacuum lines and find the leak, usually the leak is at one of the rubber connections. If you have a vacuum tester it's easier.

[diesel_mercedes] W123 240D Vacuum leak, then no vacuum at all.
Hi Everyone,
Reporting in with an interesting problem. I have a 1977 240D. Recently I noticed a hissing sound coming from the black rubber conduit that runs between the driver's door and the front fender.
I drove for a couple of week, the car would loose some vacuum sitting, say at work, but after driving a few miles it would build vacuum up again. Since then, the car has sat several weeks because I had a surgery on my leg. When I went out last Wednesday and today, the car start as normal but I noticed, after about ten minutes, the locks would not work and the ignition key would not stop the engine.
Right now, the power locks don't work, the transmission and brakes work fine, but the trunk is locked while everything else is unlocked?
Any ideas on why it would suddenly stop building vacuum after having a small leak and sitting for a while?
Thanks,

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Hitch/motorcycle
I'd go with BK on that one........way to much weight, and way to far back.
if you gotta to that, IMHO, you'd be way better off with a dolly or trailer
for the bike.
Not tellin ya what to do, though. Just my opinion.
good luck
Henry

IMHO, bad idea, too much weight on the rear suspension/tires, and handling

I was thinking of putting a class 3 hitch on my 240 d do that I could
put my motorcycle rack(sorta like those extra carrying cages for SUVs) so
that I can carry my 400 lb Buell on it! Any thoughts about hitches, springs
etc?Sean

Re: [diesel_mercedes] A Thought
Nate,
You'll end up finding many uses for the truck.
I sure have with my $500 Toyota truck.
The MB is a much better ride though...
I toyed with the idea of getting a trailer for my wives Volvo. :)

My kid put a hitch on one of our 240's. He pulled his snowmobile around in winter for rides with his friends. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Re: 240 blowing alternators
Usually, I need an alternator rather quickly when one dies. I have

---If by saying this, you are meaning you need to get it working fast. Plugging in a regulator would be much faster than changing the whole thing. I agree with Nate about having two regulators, but $20? Really? Max
