[diesel_mercedes] Haircuts and Old Workhorses (Waaay Off-Topic)

 

Yeah, I think that window lasted all of, what?  45-minutes?

The K10's a long bed; one of the characteristics that makes it "The Beast". That and the rattles, the gear whine, the other color doors and right front fender, cracked windshield, rusty rocker panels, etc.  It's a handful in tight spots, to be sure, but I can't imagine not having a truck that can't easily hold 8-foot long panels of drywall or plywood, fence posts, scaffolding, etc.

The Beast is not a stripper; it's (or, rather, WAS) two-tone (gold and cream), has A/C, velour bench seat, floor carpeting, factory AM/FM/cassette stereo, intermittent wipers, Rallye wheels and deluxe front appearance package (stacked quad headlights bisected by a full length horizontal bar, a Chevrolet truck design cue that continues to this day). The Scottsdale was the middle trim model; mine has crank windows and manual locking hubs. All-in-all, nicely outfitted without being all duded-up and pretentious like the top trim Silverado.

I've converted it to TBI ("Slobber-jection") using only salvage yard-sourced parts.  Completely changed the the whole character of the truck. If it looked as good as it runs, it would be show winner, no doubt.  Maybe someday....

LUUV those big Sixes! They were only 13 cubes smaller than my V-8.

I'm going to have to go to Broomfield, or Castle Rock to get my hair cut next week.  Most of the metro area is still under stay-at-home orders until May 8, due to the Denver and Boulder mayors, and some faceless, little-known and unaccountable quasi-government organization called "Tri-County Health" that has shut down Adams and Arapahoe, two of the area's most populated counties.


Not nearly as inconvenient a situation as you're facing, Nate. You'll have to go to Phoenix, Lake Havasu, or Tijuana....

Rest assured, my oil stocks are still doing well, I hope my grand daughter is appreciative as I never take any dividends, instead they go right back into more stock purchase .

? Is your K10 a long or short bed ? .

I had a 1976 GMC 3/4 ton long bed stripper with the same granny gear tranny and a long stroke 292 CID i6 engine, I loved it but it was too durn L O N G so I sold it Emoji .

Forgot to mention that the 35-ish mpg that the Deathstar gets is much better than the 20 that I got in the Z!  It's nice to have a nearly 600 me tank range!  Seems like I was constantly gassing the Z. Probably because I was constantly gassing the Z!

My daily driver was a '19 Nissan 370Z (employee lease)..  Well, with this pandemic, I've been busier and mire stressed than ever, and do about a week before the lease was up on the 370Z, my Renault and my truck decided to have brake problems. 

I was able to get the Renault patched together and back on the road and then had to quickly struggle with getting the control arms replaced on my 83 240D that was my daily driver several years ago. 

So, now that 240D, my friends call it the Deathstar, is back in daily driver condition, I am remembering, despite being on the opposite end of the performance spectrum from the 370Z, that I really and truly enjoy driving it as much as any car I've had. 

I think I'll get some time off soon, and so I hope to get the water pump and timing/balance shaft belts done on my Porsche 924S done and then I hope to replace the engine in my 80 240D and get it back on the road. And then rebuild the shifter and replace windshield seal on my brown '77 240D. Maybe by Memorial Day, I'll have 3 W123 240Ds on the road.  

Anyway, that's what I'm doing.

He was coming by to show me his factory A-B injection pump timing tool, some how he would up in Alhambra and spit both alternator belts at the same time, he travles with tools so I took my Coupe down to give him my spare fan belts, it turns out his engine has been slightly modified over the decades and he put a smaller diameter water pump pulley on it (to increase coolant circulation I assume) so my 10X1035 belts didn't work, he needed a 10X105MM one, off we went to O'Reilly's A.P.. where we lucked into a good counterman who was able to look up the correct size belt and we got him going again .

Hopefully he'll have the time Thu. or Fri. to come by and show me how to use this tool to more accurately time my I.P. than my current drip timing .

I've been working on that old Honda CB125S (E) and it now runs and rides well, I still have much to do, mostly cleaning and polishing .

Need a hair cut and am not sure what do to .


But it's kinda small to do my entire head....

At this point I just want a #1 cut .

I wondered about the screen too, yet did buy a pump off Rock auto for a replacement, If it's obviously the screen, I just swap that..

I know most replace the in tank screens, I've always just cleaned them well with a tooth brush....

Yesterday I met a list member Alex in his 1978 W116, I think he said the color is Maple Yellow, it's a nice color .
