Brian,
While the scroungers most likely are grabbing more things, that only pays off for them when there are less cars/parts available in the first place, and more of a market for parts.
I sure see a lot less w123 300Ds driving around now, compared to a decade ago when I bought my 300D, and every year more get scrapped. Most of the cars I looked at in 2005 were pretty beat up and had 250+k on them, and I put 115k onto my low mileage car, so it is no longer such a car.
They sure are neat old cars, if I had room, I'd keep a few more around.

It is getting harder and harder. Methinks all these Ebay guys are paying scroungers to grab things quickly. I think there is a cottage industry that has sprung up. Back in the day, I passed on a pristine 300d engine because I thought they were going to be there forever, and I still dream of the w123 300d I saw the forklift bring into the row and sit down on the posts. I got a few parts, but I should have camped out for a week and stripped it bare.
