[diesel_mercedes] Junk Yard Finds

2/6/2016

I went looking for a W-123 left front ATE Brand brake caliper to - day in the biggest Self Service Junk Yard in So. Cal. , it only had -one- W123 and the entire front suspension was gone =8-( .

I was also looking for door checks and the yard had plenty (more than TEN) W-126's so I grabbed some really choice used and one new door checks , matched them up with the W-123 and lo ! they're ever so slightly different .

The lonely W-123's driver's side door check was gone missing , the other three doors had ripped up (previously perfect, thanx you idiot) door cards and one or two bolts out of each door check but they were still there along with the partially removed hard ware so i removed all three and bought them along with the one brandy new W-126 door check , with some luck I can use it's springs , ball bearings and plastic bushings to repair the one bad W-123 door check I have at home , I still can't find the box with my spare ones , oh well .

I also found  and purchased two fuel filter heads of the late model typ that have two O-Rings on the 22MM ATF bolt , this change was made because the early typ used one O-Ring and a large aluminum flat washer right under the banjo bolt's head , these tend to weep Diesel fuel after you change the filter .

As soon as I discover the correct M-B O-Ring part # , I'll order some in then do a write up with photos as this is one of those fairly inexpen$ive up grades you can do at home .

I also bought an early Klima II HVAC push button unit as it looked really clean and whomever gutted the lone W-123's dash board , left it sitting , no sense in passing up a good thing , even if it's no good I can send it out for service/rebuilding .

Summer is almost here and I have ZERO HVAC at this point ~ no fan no matter what I do .
