Diesel RVs: 03/07/19

? does anyone else have this issue ? .

I recently ran across a discussion about this annoying issue, one fellow cut his original oil filler cap open and discovered there's a ring gasket between the two pressed to gether metal parts, apparently it dries out and allows oil to wick between the two parts and dribble out those tiny little waffle openings .

Armed with this knowledge I grabbed an original fuel filler cap, installed the blue rubber gasket to it and slapped it on my Diesel engine ~ the ridge you use to open/close it isn't in alignment but so far nary a drop of oil and I've driven it 90 MPH and have 100 + miles on it .

I tried the various replacement caps, all leaked worse than the originals .

The oil filler cap is not supposed to be vented .

Thoughts ? .

I have more but will wait to hear what others say....

One of our greatest pleasures is to share our passion for the three‑pointed star and to connect with fellow classic car aficionados. It's Showtime

For automobile restoration of the highest caliber, there's no better place than the Mercedes‑Benz Classic Center. And for putting some of the world's finest vehicles on display, there's no finer setting than the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. Mercedes‑Benz continues to be a proud sponsor of the event, to be held March 8-10 on this island just off Florida's Atlantic coast. Kicking off the 2019 season, it promises to be the first in a series of Concours that only showcases the most extraordinary vehicles. A special Mercedes‑Benz display is set to reunite some of the earliest 300 SL production cars, chassis numbers 43 and 44, for the first time since they left the factory in Stuttgart in 1954.

1966 230 SL For Sale

This 'matching numbers' 230 SL presents in its original color configuration in Papyrus White (DB 717) exterior (incl. hardtop), Dark Blue (115) MB-Tex interior, Graphite Grey (6117) carpeting, and a Dark Blue (896) soft top. The car was delivered with European specification 3.75 rear axle ratio (4.08 for US models) that, combined with the factory 4‑speed manual transmission allows for relaxed high speed cruising. It is believed that this car was privately imported to the U.S. in the mid-1970's.

Well maintained by the car's most recent owner since 1991, the owner assigned the car to Mercedes‑Benz Classic for a comprehensive 2 year, six-figure restoration. Recently completed, the restoration included a full inspection identifying any and all needs, and subsequent restoration of mechanical systems, vehicle body including hardtop, replacement of all glass, selective chrome work, interior work, underbody paintwork and detailing. Special attention was paid to bringing the car back to the authentic and exceptional condition as-delivered new in Italy 52 years ago, ready to be enjoyed today.

1967 600 For Sale

The presentation of the type 600 – the Großer Mercedes – in 1963 restored the tradition of sumptuous luxury and ultimate prestige of Mercedes‑Benz vehicles. Exclusively designed as a representative car, it fulfilled the highest demands and was equipped with many technical details, which stood for the highest standard that could be achieved at the time.

Delivered to a customer in the United States in July of 1967, this 600 Limousine presents in largely original and overall excellent condition. This stunning example of a Mercedes‑Benz 600 with short wheelbase was selectively restored by renowned 600 specialist Karl Middelhauve in the early 2000s and received functional upgrades such as an electronic ignition system.

Benz Patent-Motorwagen Replica

On January 29, 1886 Karl Benz patented the first automobile – the three-wheeled Patent-Motorwagen. Later in the same year just 60 miles away Gottlieb Daimler patented an internal-combustion engine and began with the construction of a four-wheeled horseless carriage. At the time neither Benz nor Daimler were aware of the other's work. The rest is (automotive) history. In commemoration of this milestone of engineering, Mercedes-Benz had produced a series of fully functioning replicas of the Benz Patent-Motorwagen in 2001 / 2002, mainly for museum and other public exhibit purposes. This particular example was built in 2002, was recently acquired, inspected and serviced by the Classic Center and presents with full functionality.
