Good morning ! .

I hope everyone had a nice safe New Year's Evening , I did although I fell asleep early after  long day of fun .

It was raining when I awoke Saturday morning so my plans to ride a vintage Honda CL90 Moto died then and there ~ I've ridden many a mile on Motos in rain and don't like it then nor now .

I arose dressed and headed out to the annual Horseless Carriage Show in the rain, got there 15 minutes before anyone was supposed to show up and Lo ! the gate was open and my buddy John was there in his 1927 Buick Sedan all by itself in the gentle California rain ~ we don't often get ' Gully-Washers' here, usually thin rain of very small droplets .

Anyway, John and the guys were manning the entry table, I parked way off as I was driving my beloved if battered 1984 Mercedes Diesel Sports Coupe and the main thrust of this most excellent even is the pre 1934 vehicles which soon began to roll in, open cars are well as Coupes and Sedans ~ in time quite a few showed up braving the elements, it rained off and on the whole day and at times there were 1/8" sheets of water sluicing across the asphalt making little waves as it sloshed against my shoes ~ no one seemed to care .

My Son texted to make sure I was in fact there and them had his Wife Michelle drop him off, Kim texted me and asked if I was the goof with the Santa hat (yes), we met up and walked around looking at the various ever increasing rows and rows of Vintage Vehicles and happy pleasant people, no grumpy folks here ~ only good people who understand that life has rainy days so best to enjoy them the best one can in spite of getting wet .

Two Vintage Motocycles rode in, a four cylinder Henderson manufactured by Excelsior ~ did you know Excelsior was the parent company of Henderson ? I didn't, I love these sort of events because of the wide field of knowledge I can tap and learn from . the next Moto was a fully restored Indian ?Chief? in light blue ~a Flat Head as were all Indian Motocycles, I have no idea what year it was but it sure looked pretty and ran like it was new .

Later on a teens or maybe twenties V-Twin Excelsior with side car rode in and hiccuped to a halt, it was unrestored and still looked nice .

Eventually Jr. and I met up next to a 1961 VW Beetle sporting original light blue paint, more dents than a New York City taxi cab  and gaping rust holes every where I so big could stick my hands through - it was IMO an unsafe to drive car, hopefully only used at shows as any collision no matter how slight would destroy it and probably hurt the occupants .

Photo of Jr wearing a nice cap from my Father, I was well pleased to see this .

@ 9:30 the pre '34s all rolled out, I thought it was the end of the event but as Jr. and I were watching the last of the people leave someone told us they were stopping in Micheilinda Park so we saddled up (the very last two to leave) and headed to a Quickie Mart where I bought some Gatorade (imagine being thirsty in the rain but I was) then we motored on, arrive just as everyone else was beginning to leave .
We walked and looked at the various Brass Era vehicles (a Jitney Bus and C-Cab Pie Wagon plus several open pickup trucks) , stopped to chat with the folks who had a picnic table heaped with boxes of uneaten doughnuts , enjoyed the quietude of the otherwise empty park and chatted about this and that, jobs we need to get done, jobs I'm in the middle of and happily for me, Jr. says he'd like to see more of me ~ I try not to be the PIA Father In Law / Grand Father who hangs around too much so it's nice to hear I'm welcome . hopefully we'll soon fix Jr's Dune Buggy (a simple clutch job I think) .

He says that Penny, my Grand Daughter likes ' Grampa's funny old cars ' so that's good . I have little experience with my own Grand Parents when I was growing up so I don't want to make mistakes here .

A half hour after the last old car puttered off I got a 'phone call telling me some of the folks were still out driving in the rain and would be stopping for lunch not far away @ Clearman's Boat so we headed over and got in line, ordered a couple salads (I try to eat no meat occasionally, old man eating knowhutimean ?) grabbed a table by the window and spent a long time chatting about this, that and the other thing before I took him home to his Family .

I was hoping to ring in the new year with Shirley but she let me keep sleeping so I missed it , oops .

Here's hoping that 2017 is a better year than was 2016 although 2016 was an O.K. year for me ; paid all my bills, no one died, got shot nor went to jail, so on and so forth .

THANK YOU to all those who share their learning, time and experience with me ! .
