[diesel_mercedes] Re: glow plugs

It was fairly nice this AM, so I got my wrenches I would need, the new plugs, ant took them out to the car.  I also had a flexible 1/4" drive socket extension. Looks like a speedo cable on steroids.  Also metric ratcheting box ends.  In less than an hour, I had it started up, and all the tools put away.  Was a LOT easier than taking the old ones out!!
Thank you guys for all your help.  I decided to forgo the reaming of the glow plug holes.
If it ain't broke....  my luck, I would twist off a brush in the hole...then what!?

How about a drill bit, by hand of course.

The glow plug "reamers" tend to be expensive. What would you suggest as
a "fashioned" substitute?

Thanks,

you can probably fashion something to knock some of the carbon
loose before installing the new plugs

Being careful of the threaded portion of the hole, I've used very stiff
wire with a slight bend at the end to rotate in the port. Also have
taken an old "pencil type" glow plug and flattened the element portion
to where it is slightly wider than the actual element then ground a
sharp knife edge on it. Haven't used that yet but it should scrape some
carbon loose if there is any.

I have Nokian EnTyres on both my Mercs. Very quiet, low rolling resistance and they handle well. Way better than the ContiSports they replaced.
