That's the Modulator and the short vacuum hose needs to be a snug fit ~ Diesel contaminated oil on any rubber hose , softens and ruins it so I'd got get another bit of hose & replace that and any other underhood hose you can slide off...

I have a friend with one. Engine is so quiet you cant hear it run. The car is like sitting in/driving a computer. Everything is computer this computer that. I tried to look at the engine, can't see it. He will need a mechanic/tech to take care of the car for him. Max

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Fixing a W123 Heater
Brian here is a very brave man ! . not dropping everything and fixing SWMBO's heater is a risky proposition in my view .
I'd think the fan is the usual brushes needing replacement . as you're a P-A-P junkie (like me) I'd think finding a newer , replacement fan complete will be an easy thing to do .
Maybe the push button box (always easy to find rebuilts in the Yards) is the next easy thing to try ? . I had a buttons only part I'd give you but I seem to have lost it .
I know it's not cold here in So, Cal. , being 65° F in the daytime but , keeping SWMBO happy is wise if you want to be allowed to play with old cars .

Guess I will have to do some electrical digging to see why the blower isn't blowing. I have all the necessary parts laying around, I was just hoping for a simple solution. I guess I should make a list of what else to fix while things are apart. But, my wife has next week off from work so that means the car will be running around town, and I can't tear into it until 2012 rolls around. Oh well, I guess I can wait.
