As a mechanic I've learned long ago not to diagnose without actually physically checking the vehicle.
That said, an exhaust leak hasn't been mentioned. A bad gasket or crack/hole in a portion of the exhaust manifold serving one cylinder can make what could be described as a ticking noise under load. It could also be heat sensitive.
Seemingly less logical areas could be wheel and drive shaft support bearings.
When a drive train is loaded, as during acceleration, sounds are more easily transmitted through it.
One way to locate such a noise is listening with a small diameter hose routed to someone in the passenger compartment - a simple stethoscope. That's assuming that you don't have anyone gullible enough to be duct taped to various areas of the car. Avoid the temptation to stick it in your ear.
Happy Hunting!
