[diesel_mercedes] Martha's Sunroof

Well, I made my wife happy. I went into the trunk of Martha (1983 w123 300d), found the mechanical nut on the drivers side behind the panel - and cranked that sucker (sunroof) closed. I doubt that I will ever take it apart and fix it. My wife doesn't use it because it lets the sun in, and the wind blows her hair all over. So, why fix it.  Learned that the cranking nut is 30+ year old plastic which broke off. So I got a deep socket and went down to the nub so I could get some purchase on what was left, and cranked away.

It's been hot here in La La Land so my poor old Diesel Sports Coupe was filthy from sitting out side SWMBO's house under the LAX glide path , covered in Diesel smoot plus jet exhaust.....

Yesterday it was cool and cloudy so after my mid day nap I decided  to wash it off and clean the brake dust off the wheels and so on , the last bit was to wash all the exterior windows , as soon as I pulled out of the driveway it of course , began to sprinkle , just enough to leave tiny spots , not enough to run the wipers .

At least I got a nice comment from the Geezer driving his white 1963 Cadillac Coupe =8-) .

I have a couple of parts off an SD. I don't want to salvage them. I would rather they go to someone who could use them someday. They are, first, a left front corner marker light assembly complete with lens, thumbwheel tightener, and bulb holder (with bulb). The second is a drivers door outside mirror assembly - fully functional.

If anyone is actually interested I can send pictures.

This is my last attempt to save these parts. But GAWD I hate to throw them away. Seems like only 10 years ago the yards always had one or two of these machines in inventory. Now they are getting harder and harder to find. Like we're coming to the end of an era or something. <snif> I'm glad I have my own parts car for my 300TD. But it's sad to see the numbers dwindling.

Oh well. I'll drive it till something catastrophic happens and then transplant the engine and tranny into a jeep.
