Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check Electric Auto

That Leaf needs a small, range-extending Diesel engine for longer drives.☺️

[diesel_mercedes] Monthly Vintage Car Meet & Greet

Indeed it always is and was .

More Vintage American cars than usual this time .

Only *one* old Mercedes..... .

I got there a few hours early and had coffee , read E-Mail , wrote some Tech Support , ready my book etc. until others began rolling in right around 9AM .

I stayed a couple hours then SWMBO called me to say she was going off galevanting with her Daughter, this meant I no longer had to go to her house so I left  to do some things, ran out of fuel going uphill as I approached a red light, backed to the curb , cleaned the tiny bit of crud out of the intake screen, added my two gallons of reserve fuel and drove it to Arcadia and filled it with HPR brand Bio - Fuel .

The intake screen remains clear as glass so I hope to begin driving the '82 240D and working though it's fungus issue .

This Bio-Diesel certainly makes the engine run smoother ~ it still idles too slowly (in spite of multiple speed adjustments) and is sluggish off idle but as soon as it passes 2,000 RPM the boost comes on very smoothly and strongly and it has great pickup and sharp throttle response , just for grins I floored it on the freeway and was rewarded with 100 MPH and accelerating with less than full pedal to the metal .

I'm aware that part of this re found power is due to the
overflow valve I recently replaced , I'm still trying to hook up an internal pressure gauge .

Any of you guys combing the junk yards..

I could use a few things... if any of you. Have some extra time to pick parts.

I have a 95 e320

I need a driver seat switch.  The one on the door.  Not sure if it's worth pulling an a/c compressor?  I think mine just crapped out today.  And am looking for a rear bumper cover.  Kinda big to ship.  But badly needed.  Also a driver window regulator.

Not many forums for the gassers, cept for benzworld with all their ads..wish I still had my diesel forums are great.

It's been hot in Los Angeles so Tom decided to finally allow me to replace the dead HVAC fan in his '87 W-126 300SDL .

We headed out to the local Junk Yards about 7:30AM , this first one had only _one_ W-126 in it , a gasser that some lowlife loser had owned and installed " TOTALLY JAMIN' BUMPIN' STEREO YO !" using (of course) translucent wires way too big for the job and mangling the door cards , using mixed and unmatched sheet metal screws in the dashboard and door cards......

Not overly surprising it was junked in spite of low mileage and good overall condition .

The next yard had five or six W-126's in it , only one Diesel but all had HVAC fans , I removed them all and two were replacements , German made with good brush length and one was the original (yellow squirrel cage) one , also with good brushes , I took all of them to a junked battery and tested them , the two replacement and one good bushes original one all worked well , lots of torque and high speed , quietly , the other three were working but not worth anything IMO , Tom bought the three good ones and we hied off to a shady parking lot where I installed the best of the bunch , we enjoyed nice cool and dry air all the way to a Chinese Buffet place in Arcadia , later on he gave me one of the replacement fans to tinker with , see if I can use it in one of my W-123's .

I also got a bag full of hardware and a good tested overboost protection valve but managed to lose it somewhere between the Junk Yard and home *#-o d'oh!.

That's all for to - day , I think I'll go to Golden Cove to - morrow morning , they have a nice British Car Meet there once a month .

-Nate

Re: [diesel_mercedes] window motors

Pull your switches out of the center near the shifter.  Disassemble over a clean light colored cloth.  They have ball bearings inside about the size of a bb.  Clean the heck out of everything, reassemble, test.

This is usually the problem.  Worth giving it a shot for free before you purchase something not needed.  The switches are usually gunked up with a bunch of crud.  Cleaning 9 times out of ten fixes the them.

Good luck.

Yes, it could be the switch.  Does the motor run?  If so it's probably the slides.  Mercedessource.com.  has  information relating to this

Re: [diesel_mercedes] window motors

Nick,

Usually it's not the motor. If you hear nothing when you hit the switch, 1st check the fuses, then the switch, which could be tested by seeing if there's power to one of the prongs or sockets behind the switch and connect it to the prong or socket next to it, or swap switches with a known working one. If that works bingo. If not, maybe the motor, yet I'd still follow the wires back to make sure the motor is getting power.

If it is the switch, it can be cleaned by taking it apart, or just grab a few from PAP.

If it makes noise, yet doesn't move, the regulator might be stripped out.
