Re: [diesel_mercedes] RE: 1982 Mercedes Diesel 190D 2.5

I bought it just the other day for $500, and today, it's GONE!  I found more problems than I wanted to throw money at, so I decided to cut my losses.  The tranny began to slip in reverse and not go completely into gear, but that little 2.5L seemed strong.  Now, someone else can play with it.

That's normal Mike ;

Just grab your BIGGEST screwdriver and hold it by the tip & WHACK the housing with the handle , it'll pop loose .

Thanks. It seems I am either overheating and have to stop and cool down or running less than100 and the heater does not work.

Also I can't rove the top of the thermostat housing after removing the bolts.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] '84 300SD Sylvia - Glow plug light glows (and glows, and glows, and glows)

The relay might be locked in.  Once the  engine is running you could co
nmfirm this by checking for voltqge to ground from one of the glow plugs.  The other thing to check is to see if the current feeding the glow plug relay shuts off once the car is running.   In that case it may be the ignition switch.

It has gotten cold enough here in northwest metro MA that Silvia is starting to act up again....lately, the glow plug light refuses to go out....and me thinks this means they're glowing while the engine's running and draining the battery at the same time. Putting a voltmeter on the battery when the engine is off - it's 12.0V. Start the car and it's closer to 11.5V @ 1500 RPM with the glow plug light on while engine is running.....when the light finally decides to go out, voltage goes to about 13.3V at idle and 13.8 @ 1500 RPM.

I found this post below from someone who found corrosion in the pre-glow fuse box / relay. It's cold enough that I only had time/will to remove the cover, look for cracks in the fuse (none I could see) and re-seat the connectors to the glow plugs. No help. Anyone else tried what's described here (w/ success?). Anything else to try or diagnose?

Car starts, runs and drives fine (probably needs a vacuum pump) otherwise - I fear I'm ruining what are relatively new glow plugs....and the battery as it's probably not getting charged as much as it is being drained.

thx,

-Barton

[diesel_mercedes] RE: made it.

Ah crap, Nate I did not order new sensors, figured they were part of the pad.

Brian, that was 500 miles after the sensor light started coming on.
