RE: [diesel_mercedes] Lucas Electricals

What's interesting/weird/ironic is that "Lucas" means "luminous", as in, gives off light.

Furthermore, a variation is "Lucifer", "bringer of light".  Of course, we all know what the Biblical Lucifer became....

If

I

Recall

Correctly

The tanks were made to carry spare fuel and the ones I saw on Flea-Bay were still German made , I shudder to think what Ma 'Benz might want *if* they still have them .

You'd have to add a pickup , return & hose connections etc....

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Additional Fuel Tanks

max, that was the point I was trying to make in post. I was worried that the state cops would pull me over and see that I was using untaxed fuel (WVO), but if the tannks were ganged, unless one looked closely, it would be hard to tell. Covering for the tanks could be duplicated and changed to accomodate the additional tank. Otherwise, the trunk would look like stock.

You could make a tank to fit right behind the orginal one and not lose much space at all. I would love to have a extra 10 gallon tank right there just in case diesel gets hard to get, or fill up extra when you find a good price. Hey, I just finished my rear brake pads. You guys never told me how easy they are to replace. My car sure had uneven wear. Dust and mud maybe? How about the fronts are they as easy? Max

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Additional Fuel Tanks

The local boneyard had a 300D a ffew years ago and I grabbed the tank from it for $20; I'd intended to "gang" it with the original tank using threaded rod. I believe this is possible, though I have not done it yet. (I barely have time for a bladder break between 1K mile jaunts ;-), I'm so busy.)

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Additional Fuel Tanks

Two 5 gallon fuel tanks from Costco or Walmart or Kragens will fit on each side in the well if you just want to carry around fuel - which I do if I am traveling in the boondocks. But most of the time I can get 500 miles on a tank and there are a lot of fill up spots in a 500 mile range. My other constraint is that someone will need to pit stop to discharge their bladder at the 350 mile range, so the idea of me making at 1000 mile run without stopping at a station is ridiculous anyway.
