Re: [diesel_mercedes] Turbo rebuild advice

Mercedes Source has a couple of videos on turbo rebuild, and a manual I think.

I plan to rebuild a turbo I picked up from a parts car, and drop it into
my daily driver 300D.

Does anyone have any experience with turbos? Ben in Detroit?
If so, do you have any advice for the process?

I've pulled apart the turbo, the splines look fine, and not too much
caked oil at the bearings.

Turbo city is right up the road, and has rebuild kits.

My current turbo works, yet looks like it might be leaking oil at the
bearings, and of course the return tube is leaking at the base. I figure
that I'll do it all at once, then hopefully have a bit more power and
less oil spots on the driveway, well besides the ones from the oil
filter canister, which is another job.

Thanks

[diesel_mercedes] Simple radio wiring. Am I right?

Red wire to back of Becker then fuse then black wire then into the radio.  A black wire goes out with the speaker wires.  Brown ground.  What do they all mean?  Best guess is red 12 v.   Black with speaker wires is antenna remote as turning on and off radio must be controlled.  What else is in the grey bundle or is it just the speaker wires?

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Repairing your trim

I agree Brian. My trim can't be bad enough to warrant that much effort either.

But looks don't matter much to me. I'm in this for the boringly reliable-ness of these rigs. It's like the lady at the recycler once told me - "You use that thing like it was a truck.". That said, there is certainly no american truck that will run this well when/if it lives to be thirty+ years old.
