Re: [diesel_mercedes] Wiring Diagran for 80 300D anyone?

Haynes has schematics in the back pages - but they are clear as mud to me. I am interested in what you find because I have wiring that starts and stops in the middle of nowhere with no hint of what the DPO or mechanic was trying to accomplish.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Tool-fest at Sears...I'm gearing up!

That would be my guess too; I've found I have to be much more careful at Sears than in the past to see whether a given tool is a Craftsman or another brand line.

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Alloy Air Cleaners

Slightly thicker than that but , the nice weld you'll make , will cause the air cleaner to not have proper support so it'd likely just crack again beyond the weld.....

As I live in Sunny So. Cal. , I should be able to find a good one with some diligence......

Sadly , I just recently found a pristine 1982 240D in a Pick-A-Part and briefly considered yanking the low mileage drive drain out of it for SWMBO's car , of course it had a perfect air cleaner....

Thanks, being 35 miles north of downtown dallas, I did not want to drive 35 plus miles to again find skeletons. I will keep looking.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Tool-fest at Sears...I'm gearing up!

Caitlin,

Yeah, on the tools. It'll make the work easier to do. With the basic
tool set you can do most repairs, and then just add to the set as needed
with those special tools. I may take a peek at the Sears sale too.

The Vacuum tester can be bought at most parts places, though the one at
Harbor Freight works pretty well, and goes on sale quite often.

I need to do a valve adjustment soon too, maybe today.
The valve adjust is a feel good, rather easy task, with the right tools,
once you figure out the basics, that keeps these cars running well, and
saves some cash. A good way to start the new year.

Is it normal for this part to crack? How thin is it? Is it easy to find a replacement?
If it is thicker than a beer can, I may be able to weld it. I have beenTIG welding since 1969.
