Brian,
Why is your trunk still leaking? Need a new rear windshield seal, a rust
hole, or what?
Mine has a little rust hole under the window seal that I plugged with
silicone, until I can fix it right.
No leaks...
Now my garage, that's been a problem...tarps & buckets.

You guys kill me. Such a sad predicament.
Ben near Detroit.
...sent via electronic tether...
Mark,
Remember, the rain makes the hillside grasses & weeds grow more, so the
fire danger rises with it.
You're right though, we will "go on" about the fire & smoke when it comes.

BTW : anyone in the greater L.A. Metro Area who knows where Bird Of Paradise is growing wild , let me know as my gardener neighbor told me how to safely transplant it , I'll do dig it up .
[diesel_mercedes] Re: Rain is wet
Just looked out the window & great big chunky lumps of snow are falling & the ground has gone white. Guess we will leave the Mercedes covered up for another week or two.

THANX for the pictures .
Do you want to sell that coil spring compressor ? I need one...

Re: Sagging Rear Update
Here are some pix of my 84 300D spring swap-out. I got the springs they sell at
autohausaz.com and also the thickest rubber spacer shim or whatever it's called.
Springs are dangerous to work with. I'm just a weekend mechanic and this job
was a bit of a pain to do. My shocks were good but if they weren't I would have
put new back in instead of the old...no extra work to do that since I had to
take the shocks out and put them back in anyway. I bought the spring compressor
tool from someone on ebay.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Sagging Rear Update
thanx for the fyi {;-)
Well ;
There's actually a plethora of different springs for the W-123's , the shorter ones are stiffer so maybe not using the longest one is the best option .
In any case , MOOG prolly has good quality coil springs for your saggy W-123 and cheap too .
As I run 'em hard and fully loaded , I generally go to the specifications catalog and pick the heaviest duty ones .
You are correct , adding shims is a bad practice .
I'm sure many Partshaus' sell affordable coil springs .

Nick Ponders :
RE : Sagging Rear Update
Ok about the springs ... and their sagging
methinks it better to put something fresh in place rather than installing shims.
seems shims would just fill 'springgy' space with a less forgivingly 'unspringgy' solid ...
... thus, making for a more jarring ride ?
Anybody know what were/are the specs supposed to be for an '84 300D (4dr sedan 123 td)?
how tall ?
AND .... any 2 cents worth on what other interchange/swap vehicle source might be acceptable for getting back to 'normal'?
....rather than going to the DEALER for $$$$$$$$$++ original equipment part.
I dont know thus the ? ? maybe an interswapping something from a GMC Suburban , a 1988 montego , a Ford Pickup?????
AND (tiresome, eh?) if , inastead of original equipped tires size, someone were to dare going a size up
(theoretically for better mileage?)
then ..... (re: above how 'tall' new springs are), how much taller might one still consider prudent when replacing those rear springs?
