[diesel_mercedes] 82 240D exhaust

Try Peach Parts first, be sure to buy the improved 1972  R107 rubber loop hangers, they have chain inside and won't rot away and drop your exhaust without warning .
Buy the hangers NOW and take them with you to whomever fixes up your new exhaust .

Depending on where you're located it may be easier to take the car to an indie muffler shop, one that has a pipe bender and can make up the pipe as they go along .
I have a good guy in Pasadena, Ca. if you're anywhere in Southern California .

Best bet is to bite the bullet and pay for stainless steel, it'll out last you .

The muffler *must* be straight through (means look in one end, see out the other) or it'll have back pressure and you'll lose a LOT of power .

Let us know what  you decide, the M-B Classic Center maybe able to order you in athe correct top quality system complete .

They'll have the best quality R107 hangers too . takes four .

[diesel_mercedes] Bought A 1982 240D 191K miles!

Kevin ;

It sounds like you scored ! .

Welcome to the insane asylum .

Don't rush into the tranny adjustments, fix ALL the vacuum leaks first and do the routine valve adjustments and so on, be SURE the plastic intake fuel screen is CLEAR PLASTIC not the worthless translucent one !

This engine is stellar but not much power so any fuel restriction no matter how slight *instantly* upsets proper shifting because you're giving it too much throttle to try and compensate . (I had to change my intake screen to - day again and got immediate power)

Call and price every glass shop  within 100 miles, I use All Star glass and they do windshields for 50 % than anyone else, there's a MASSIVE markup on all glass products so it pays to shop around .

fix the air cleaner NOW before it breaks something else ! use ONLY M- factory rubber mounts or be ready to change them endlessly .

The door checks are the same front and read, same side so go find a good used one and clean then grease it well .

Post some pictures of your new baby .

Hello listers! I'm the proud owner of this cream colored 1982 240D Slushbox! It has a very nice 99% rust free west coast body/chassis, nice paint, serviceable condition with the usual querks like a well worn driver's seat, non-op and disconnected vacuum locks, non-op AC, late/early shifting, most likely needs a valve adjustment, mismatched tires, badly cracked windshield, some failed door check straps, rattling air cleaner, nothing too bad. The car is tight with no rattles, pretty awesome for a 1982!!
