So ;
I go home last night and sans help I didn't want to go sticking my hands under neath the engine as I rocked it back and forth trying to slip the heat shield back in......
Instead I decided I'd get back to the door checks I stopped working on a month ago .
Of course , now that I have some WWII surplus long fiber EP rifle grease , I can't seem to figure out where the heck I put the box of good used door checks I bought in Las Vegas in Christmas time.... this same box of course has my old metal can of Lubriplate Lithium brake grease .
So , I unloaded my truck , rummaged in my house , looked in the trunk of my Coupe etc. in a fruitless search for the box of door checks then took the door check out of my spare 240D door and didn't wrap it in a rag as I took it apart for inspection , service and cleaning.....
One of the large ball bearings went !POING! and disappeared into the 43Rd. dimension , I heard it hit the steel drip tray under my truck as it vanished but isn't to be seen anywhere .
I finished taking the check apart and laboriously cleaned away all the old black stiff EP grease so as soon as I find some more door checks for parts , I can grease it up and re assemble it .
SWMBO had me take her shopping in Gardena to - day so I went by the Russian Self Service Junk Yard , popped in and found -no- W123's at all , a few rather nice W126's but no diesels .
The shiny black 1977 300D now has a price of $3,000.00 on it , it's a nice little car and all but IMO only worth about $1,500 , it needs some upholstery work , window switches and of course , at the very least a major tune up and the rest of the usual things any 35 year old vehicle needs before being in any way reliable .
They also have Grandpa's 1970 ? Plymouth Scamp two door hard top in VGC for $1,999 , with AC and current tags , I have no need for more cars nor anyplace to store it else I'da made a cash offer on the spot ~ these are very good little cars and few are not run ragged or rusted out , this one showed 97,000 miles and looked pretty good .
Maybe Tom will go to Pick-A-Part with me early Saturday morning to harvest a few W123 door checks .
The Peach Parts Sales manager called me personally to apologize for the close to one MONTH wait for a left front ATE brand caliper , that was nice , I hope it arrives soon .
More to come .
