[diesel_mercedes] Re: Nate doesn't like veggie in diesel engines.

So in my 8mpg bus conversion, I was running up to 50% wvo, mixed into the main tank. After one season, as we were nearing home 150miles away, Piston 1 stopped, Pistons 2 through 6 kept on doing their thing.
The towing bill was around $2,000 (had insurance phew) the new used motor was $3500, 2 months work to install by YT, and another $8,000 for mechanic work to install my jake brakes and bolt up the transmission generally much mucking about to get rolling again. We fluked on the new eng, it had just been rebuilt when they dropped a crane on the truck it was in.
I do not think it was the veggie oil that caused piston one to stop (boy you shoulda seen the mess, cylinder liner in pieces, con rod pretselled, etc) but much as I cannot afford the $500 fill up on Dino D, I cannot take a chance on a $12,000 eng rebuild.

[diesel_mercedes] Sleepless in Seattle

Just got to say, Kent at MercedesSource must have corraled all of the MB's in the northwest. In 15 days, I have not seen any on the road, or in driveways. Makes me want to go home and fire mine up, even just to go to the store or the post office.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Nate & Tom's Most Strange Adventure

That involved vintage Moto cycles , curvy hi elevation (5,000 + feet) mountain roads , yet another flusherginner Behr radiator's upper outlet snapping off sans provocation , a scary & dangerous coasting a three ton non running Mercedes miles down said mountain roads to a shady spot to affect repairs , a head on Moto / Mini Van collision , the joy of finding a radiator for a 30 year old Mercedes on a Sunday , on and on...

I'm *so* beat up & sore I missed work to - day and spent most of to - day napping .

Tom will weigh in shortly with a coherent story , stand by please .

-Nate
