[diesel_mercedes] Death Valley 2016 route sheet and maps [1 Attachment]

Yep ;

It's that time of year again ~ we're off to sweat like rented mules for THREE DAYZE .

Sadly I can no longer ride my Moto this far so I'll ride on Tom's old 1979 Dodge D-200 crew cab service bed chase truck .

Hi all,

I attached our route sheet and maps.  Monday's ride will follow the Saturday route but in reverse.

Wildrose Canyon is closed (still).  Usually a few folks ride it anyways.  Since I'll be on an endure bike this year maybe I'll join the fun.

Please try to be ready at 9:00 Saturday morning to head out.  We have a long ways to go, many rest stops to make and many snacks to get!

Also, if you'd like to order continental breakfast from the Tecopa Hot Springs resort be sure to let them know in advance.  If you'd like a heartier breakfast there is a place in Shoshone, several miles away.  Sadly, there is no Starbucks or anything of the kind in Tecopa.  Actually, there's not really a town.  We will be Out There, past the reach of cell phones, TV signals, and baristas.  But hey, there will be mineral water baths to soak in and our rooms even have electricity!

Cheers,

Brendan

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Mileage Check 1984 300CD Automatic

Still smoking too much but also very much fun to drive ! .

447 miles , 26 MPG , some Startron added .

This fillup I added almost a quart of Startron because I'm still getting some small black chunks in the primary fuel intake screen .

[diesel_mercedes] Tank Sub Hose

Just So Dno ~

I've not yet done my Wagon but the Sedans and Coupes I removed the tank screen using a 46 (IIRC) MM socket and then washed the accumulated crud off after I'd cut away the thin metal crimp holding the rotten hose to the end nipple .

It's easy and  can be done by hand with a pair of dykes or a strong small flat bladed screwdriver .

You'll need about 12" of DIESEL RATED 7MM hose and some sort of clamp ~ a spring clamp would be nice , I use the original Mercedes fuel injection hose clamps , they're band typ and cannot cut / damage the hose as do regular screw typ ' jubilee ' clamps .

best bet is to remove the strainer from tank to cut clamp off. Then replace the hose. While it's out, pull the sending unit from the top and do what you can to rinse out as much crap as you can.
