THANX Jim ! .
I tried to download CCleaner but no joy .
I'll save this info and try it again as soon as we get another black ink thing for the printer...

Turn off all startups you don't need, like auto updaters and stuff like that. Write down any virus name you find and make sure that that "program" is set to NOT start up (you'll see how to do that in ccleaner).

Sometimes you have to turn the virus's startup setting off in ccleaner and then restart into safe mode to be able to change the name to .VIRUS

[diesel_mercedes] Re : 240 alternator belt size
It's dark out or I'd go pop the hood & look Dan ;
In any case : EINGINE OFF , pop the hood and grab the alternator's fan , try to turn it ~ if it takes a mighty heave and squeaks as you force it to turn , it's prolly O.K. , replace the voltage regulator with the BOSCH brand one and it'll charge like a mad thing .
If , OTOH , the fan pulley turns with minimal effort , go get a new belt , install it and use the star bolt tensioner to make it tight enough to squeak before snugging down the various pinch bolts .
If everything under the hood is soaking with oil , take the time to de -grease it well as oily pulleys don't grip well .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Re : Computer AVG FREE 2011 Help
That's why I'm waiting for the 'Update Manager' upgrade. I did that for 10.10 and avoided all the hassle others reported having jumped the gun. I am very pleased with 10.10, everything just works. On MS my grandson has a very powerful computer which is so full of crap you'd think it was steam driven, he can't even play simple games on it anymore.
11.4 is out right now, I upgraded my 11.3 with it and all was fine, but then came about 30 bug fixes, one of which did something unfortunate to my MBR, which I'm still trying to fix...
In the meantime, back to XP. I'd forgot how annoying MS systems are...Date: Friday, April 1, 2011, 10:17 AM

That might have been true with the 7's and 8's distros but the newer versions are very intuitive - it will be interesting to see the new 11.04 any day now.._,___

I was going to suggest open SUSE, but trying to introduce Linux to a basic Windows user really requires physical presence and hand holding for about a week, in my experience. bk --- On Fri, 4/1/11, Old Grumpy <grumpygubbe@gmail.com> wrote:

Nate, with the additional information, I believe the software has a cookie or file which only allows you to download and install once on a computer. just my guess. So I would just move on to AVAST or another virus software.
