This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

Greetings from bucolic Atascadero , California =8-) .
SWMBO and I hit the road in the clapped out 1982 240D automatic as we're in the middle of a heat wave and this is the only vehicle I have with working AC at the moment .
I filled it up this afternoon and was pleased to see it got 26.6 MPG in spite of only 200 # compression in # 1 cylinder and needing to go up steeper hills in third gear @ 38 ~ 40 MPH (AC on) .
It's been running consistently @ 90 ~ 100 * C , it cools right off to 80* C or less when I idle it for any amount of time .
The " TRANS-X " snake oil I added last fall is still doing it's <magic> ~ no ATF loss and the shifting is *perfect* .
The driver's seat spring is broken and collapsing , this gave my sciatic nerve a wallop so I had to stop and walk around a few times , took 500 Mg of Ibuprofen mid way through the day .
As usual , this worthless totally worn out old Automobile chugs happily along , I down shift manually and go easy on the revs going up hills ~ I'm sure I could flog it to 50 MPH on the hills but why ? .
My Lady is enjoying the drive , we came up I5 to SR 166 West to SR101 to avoid all the smoke and fires around Sta. Barbara , I think I'll go across SR58 through Bakersfield to - morrow when we head home .
Did I ever mention how much I love this old Junk Yard refugee ?.

Sounds like a nice little drive.
Are you going to pick up a pool noodle to stuff under the seat? they work OK, until you can replace the springs from a nice passenger seat.
We'll be heading up that way (SLO) later in the summer.

It's about 06:30 hear I *think* Max .
I used to be up and out 7 days the week @ 04:30 but this retirement thing is making me lazy ~ I often stay abed until 07:00 now .
