Re: [diesel_mercedes] Affordable Shipping

Have you put one in a YJ before?
I was going to try a 300D into a Cherokee and found the sump from the motor would hit the front diff.

Where is this 240D with a 4 speed? I am wanting to put one in a Jeep YJ - if I can find an engineless YJ cheap.

Also I would sell both my 240's, the 4 spd. is a sweet car. It had a Mercedes engine installed by a dealer 100K miles ago, 190K now perfect running car. I have all documentation since the car was new, I even have the original purchase order for it. In case anyone is wondering why the engine was replaced at 90K(I sure did) a guy left the oil drain loose at one of those oil change places. One reason I do my own. Max

Re: [diesel_mercedes] dreaded ignition lock

FWIW:

I removed the steering wheel locking pin from my 81 300TD AND unscrewed the barrel around the lock cylinder while I still could. but then I don't care that much for looks. I care a LOT about inconvenience.

because I pulled straight into my driveway where I never park the

Fought with it for over an hour with graphite, banging, jiggling etc but
all failed.  Finally I did what we have all been told never to do to

first try.

I know I should replace the tumbler and disable the locking pin but I'm
going to leave everything uncovered and see what happens.  Call me an

I got home from Spokane at 4:30 yesterday, in the dark, 10 degrees. I needed to run my diesel generator, went to start it, no go. Just made a clicking sound like the battery was shot. It is several years old. It was too cold and I was too tired to deal with it. I got home from Sacramento Sunday afternoon after riding in a car all night(never do that again), came home to about 5 inches of snow, then Sunday night it snowed a lot, got about 12" now. At least I got the road plowed before my plow crapped out. It's winter for sure. Max

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Winter Blues/whites

Definitely getting nippy here, had to turn off the ceiling fan, and cover ourselves with a bed sheet last night, but did keep the windows and doors open.

Am a bit upset, the car dash is starting to grow a crack, any tips for glueing it shut?
