Mike, All, FYI. Yep ULSD got to my lift pump like the Cummins warning
said it will leak out of the gasket between the pump and the mount
AND throught the pump and out the electrical connector. It was
leaking both places!! Tomorrow I'll see what the guts look like, the
entire old assy is down in a bay.
The new lift pump assy is installed $664 total ($280 Pump/Misc
Parts, $344 Labor $86/hr X 4 hours, +misc shop stuff and tax.) They
had a bad time getting one mount bolt loose. Before it was loose the
engine rock guard was off, the main fuel filter assy was off, the
two smaller lines and one larger line were off, the ECM connectors
were tied out of the way, the starter was off and two guys worked
together (one top one bottom, for at least an hour.) They started at
8:15 and finished around 3, but the shop manager only charged me for
a total of 4 hours labor. I drove it about 80 miles after, works
good no leaks. I'm sure glad I didn't try to change it... there just
aren't enought bad words to cover the job... Tomorrow I will crawl
around underneath and satisfy myself that it's all back together...
Airplane guys should understand "Final QA/QC"
Thanks for all of the inputs,

It has a number, Topic Number 06T5-18. It is a seven page bulletin.
It deals with ISX, ISC, & ISL engines. There are numerous part
numbers depending upon the serial number of the engine and their
manufacture date.

the copy is not good enough to upload to this forum. Incidentally
this was sent to me at the same time the Jacksonvile Cummins store
was telling Jim & Karen that there was no fix for their lift pump,
and this may be true because Cummins did go to a non-repairable pump
and they may have had one of these.

> Since the bulletin was seven pages, it is highly unlikely anyone
read it. I had to give the number to the Tampa store to get them to
send it to me. The parts man had not seen it before. I got it from
someone in Alabama who responded to general inquiry that I had put on
the internet.
