Okay, thanks. I had no idea what the black stuff was and no source I
could find mentioned it. I though it was something from sitting for
years (which I suppose it is). Would have been nice of some one of the
many people I discussed it with had mentioned fungus. LOL

I took the system apart, scrubbed the tank with a sponge on a stick (big
fun), flushed lines, changed filters, the works. The filter was full of
black stuff a week later.

Should have asked here, I guess. (DOH!)

Only good thing is our roads are so rough here in the unorganized
territories, it's no trouble to really swish that treated fuel around.

I've poured in the whole bottle and she'll top off the tank tomorrow
when she goes to town. I'll change the filters again next week.
Thanks for your help.

[diesel_mercedes] STARTRON For Fungus

It kills it and turns *most* of the fungus (depending on how bad your individual car is) into incredibly fine particles that will flow right through your fuel filters and the rest of the fuel system too with out damaging it .

You might consider adding 8 + ounces to a fully filled tank , driving it a while then parking it a few days so it can do it's thing .

If you're still unsure , run the tank to the low level light comes on then change the clean intake screen _only_ fill it up and see what happens .

No need / point to mindlessly change the secondary filer .

AHA! I gave it the recommended dose with a full tank but it's still
acting up. Of course it could take us a month to use up a full tank,
still I would have thought it would have helped by now.

Does it actually dissolve the stuff, or just kill it? I need to change
the filters again but I hate to make a daily chore of it, could get
expensive. Any good way to tell if the stuff is dead? or just change
the filters and take your chances.

That's pretty much what I told you a few weeks ago that I used. I
wasn't sure if it was 3/16" or 1/8", but my brother and I have been
using it without incident for years. NAPA says it's nitrile for fuel,
including diesel. I thought it was neoprene. Whatever.

DIESEL rated fuel hose is different .

That's why I waited a while before posting this P/N ~ I wanted to see if it'd get soft and begin leaking as Gasoline rated fuel hose does .

[diesel_mercedes] Replacement Parts

OK, I reminded myself why I bought a Schumks starter. I called the local dealer (MB)in Spokane today and I am sure I did way back when I first needed a starter. $528 MB dealer, Shumks about $100 lifetime. Yep, they suck, but I will not fork out $528.           they suck at alternators too. Max

Well Max ;

Me , I prefer to fix things once and right , I replaced the starter in Tom's 1981 300SD a few years ago , we bought one from the local NAPA store and it came with the all important NEW solenoid .

No further troubles with it .

Co$t about $150 IIRC .

FWIW , I used to be a BOSCH ReMan Dealer and they often stick brandy new units in the rebuilt boxes .

Lifetime warranty is worthless if you have to use it more than once due to low quality product .
