[diesel_mercedes] Re: More WD40 Uses

In case this url won't open, it is just a story of a lady who was superglued to a toilet seat at Home Depot, and the responders used wd40 to remove her from the seat.

RE: [diesel_mercedes] More WD40 Uses

...and from our good friend William Thornton (Willamina, Oregon):

I been painting for 30 years+. In 20 years of using the WD40, I've never  had any rust come back through anything I painted this way (this is just the way I do it ...OK!!). WD40 will neutralize rust stops it dead in its tracks.

When I got my truck, I scratched the rust with Brillo pad or sandpaper; whatever I could get to. Then blew everything off with air; all the little crevices, up under the truck. Then just saturated everything with WD40. After it sits hour or so, blow off excess with air (rust has been stopped.) Then let it sit, for a couple of weeks at least, and paint with primer. I use spray cans; that way I can get paint in tight spots with that under truck!! Works great for me.

If its rusty, it gets the WD40 treatment from me. And yes, I Figured This Out!! I put WD40 on everything that moves or don't move (did I say everything??) This means computer keys,... let's just say everything!! My house smells like WD-40 & my Truck. (...even ME) I've had 4 major surgeries; 3 steel plates in left foot, full right hip replacement, right shoulder been reconstructed, 3 ruptured disc in back (fell through scaffold in 1982)!! I just about bath in WD40. The doctors can't believe how good I HEALED UP! No skin problems and I could go on and on about this!!!   (do not attempt this at home!  ...Bill in Oregon)

This could possibly be my next Mercedes Diesel.  The ad says it's a 1982, but it's a 1987.  It won't upshift past 2nd gear even after changing the tranny.  I'm betting on the kick-down switch under the accelerator/loud/Diesel pedal.  It should be a fun project for me.  The seller is bringing it out to my house since he's just a few miles away.  It's definitely worth $1000.  We'll see whether it's a keeper or not.

[diesel_mercedes] Re Power Light Duty Trucks

The '41 ~ '46 Chevy trucks are very beautiful indeed , I used to own a '46 I built out of junk parts (two old trucks) , it was a good 'un , I used a '57 Chevy 235 I6 from a Passenger car in it .

The 292 was GM's very last true truck I6 engine , it was thin wall design and so very light to power ratio , long stroke so amazing torque , you just didn't want to keep it revved up all the time .

I have one I plan to put in my '69 C/10 to replace the ailing , oil burning 250 CID it has now .

I'll also up grade the most excellent TH30 tranny to the improved TH350-C tranny , this being the same tranny with a lockup torque converter to ease the RPM's on the open Highway for fuel economy and longer engine life .

RE: [diesel_mercedes] OM617 Conversions

I/we have plenty of projects now .

I don't really trust those TV show guys to do anything right , most of my Mechanical career has been fixing other people's goofs and mistakes .

However , I *do* think re powering Tom's old Dodge long bed service truck , would be good .

Where to go ? .

You really need another project.

I would contact one of the conversion shows on the Speed Channel. With the right presentation this would make a lot of sense for them to do some shows on.

Looks good to me Kevin ;

I see that add is 5 days old , I'd go by for a test drive and if it's all O.K. offer $500 CASH as it's nearly Christmas so nothing is selling right now .

I've ridden in a few of those ' Baby 'Benz ' and thought they were very nice if crowded back seat for adults .

This is an idea that just won't go away and Tom & I keep thinking & talking about converting his old '79 Dodge D200 truck .

I found this interesting site that has many Diesel conversion ideas including Mercedes : http://www.dieselbombers.com/diesel-engine-conversions/

Probably worth bookmarking this site as you're allowed to look in and read the articles without joining , it's free to join anyway .

I'm no fabricator and was poking around looking for a So. Cal. shop , maybe a 4X4 shop that could do this , we only need a 2WD conversion to make his nice old truck a killer camper / traveling rig again .

It's 40* F out , Brrrrr.......
