Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Whoa...interesting accidental Google find

I didn't have to do any of that. Installed it and let it run.

There is freeware called WinHTTrack Website Copier that works pretty well.  You have to fiddle with the options a little bit but it will work for most sites, and rebuild a local copy on your own hard drive.  For sites with pdf files you have to tell it to include those pages in its download file type.  You might have to give it permission to go up or down through directories within the same domain and set the depth level to 1 or 2.

For grins I'm downloading the site now using that shareware utility.
Going on 4 hrs 9 mins and 354MB.  And we have fiber here!

It's a biggun.  Unfortunately its the whole site and there's more there
than just the MB stuff.

Too late Brian, my Google Docs ate the whole thing in about an hour and 20 min.

For all the reasons noted after your post there are a ton of ways to make this more useful than those old disk.

Lawrence,

Are you referring to the rear axle boots or another boot?

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : FREE WVO !

Yeah, now that I'm an old bugger I have problems manhandling oil drums too. Until I get my flat bed crane sorted a simple 'A' frame and pulley set up sorts it out though.

Good luck.

I might be interested in that WVO, though I don't know how to get the

RE: [diesel_mercedes] Re: Whoa...interesting accidental Google find

I was just checking the 2 disk M-B service manual installation on my computer, another way to open the program is to locate the file named " opening " in the program file and use that as your starting command! there are 2 versions of that file, the one with the Explore sign is the one that works.

When You have the CD's Copy on Your hard drive, Locate a file named " index.htm " make that your opening comand! then you will get a screen where you select your year and model and then you can select the component you wish to look at.

Yes, once you copy the CD's to your hard drive, the Adobe 9 works fine. Adobe 5 is needed to read the CD's from the CD drive. The real weakness is not having a good index to drive down (i.e., 00-010 or 02-210 doesn't tell you whether you are in brakes, camshafts, or radiators).

I have the 2 disk set of the service manual CD's for the 123 series. I'm using Adobe version 9 reader and don't have any problems at all!
I have the CD's copied to my Computer Hard drive.

I agree. I keep Adobe 5 around just for them, and think that someday I will do something to bring the discs into 2011 technology - come on Barton, work on a simple solution for us.

The service manuals on disc suck because they are designed to run on the
most ancient form of Adobe acrobat on the planet. If you upgrade your
Adobe to look at well everything else out there, you cannot read those
darn disks. At least that was my experience with the W126 disks.
Produced in the early to mid 1990s and the technology is really dated.

For grins I'm downloading the site now using that shareware utility.
Going on 4 hrs 9 mins and 354MB. And we have fiber here!

It's a biggun. Unfortunately its the whole site and there's more there
than just the MB stuff.
