Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: automatic transmission questions
Max,
Many cars have a magnet in the transmission pan (on Automatics). Clean it, too - it is harder to do than it sounds - stick to it and you;ll get there.
Bobby
I was refering to this Subaru I just got. One neat thing is they FINALLY put a spin on transmission filter on the car. But holy crap they cost over $30. I wonder if there is one inside too. So when you drop the pan to change the filter, you are cleaning out the inside of the pan, changing the filter, right? That's all you can clean, right? Max

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Mileage Check 1984 300CD AC USED
Because it's been hot here ! .
366 miles , 23.3 MPG .
I used Startron and the intake screen remains pretty clear .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Slushbox Service Question
I've heard this too , but I always change the fluid & filter and if it fails , it was going to strand you anyways .
There's a back flush machine (I *think* it's called a ' BG ') that's supposedly very good , I'd just as soon drop the pan and make 1000 % sure there's no silt in it or band debris , the filter is new and so on .
Most Slush Boxes use only an intake screen , Mercedes has a real filter so when it's dirty , you're beating the crap out of your tranny .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : W-123 FREE DOOR !
Thanx John ! I learn a new thing here every day .
Other old Mercedes Gurus had assured me they're the same , this is a Wagon door 'cause I wasn't 100 % certain .

The trailing edge of the window frame is squared in the wagon and curved in the sedan. You might be able to fit a sedan door in a wagon, but you would have a gap.

[diesel_mercedes] automatic transmission questions
I have been hearing stuff about changing transmission fluid on automatics. Do it, O no don't do it. Some guys say "It will mess things up if you change it" Eh? Really. I've always believed in changing fluids. Whats the deal here? Also whats this flush thing a shop will do? Back flush, no filter change? Max

The lower parts of the doors may be the same, but the fixed glass in the station wagon door is trapezoidal compared to triangular in the sedan. The trailing edge of the window frame is squared in the wagon and curved in the sedan. You might be able to fit a sedan door in a wagon, but you would have a gap.
