[diesel_mercedes] Re: tranny troubles

I have repaired the B2 piston in this tranny earlier. I doubt that it would go again ??

Re: [diesel_mercedes] tranny troubles

Usally the reverse goes first in a worn trans. The K1 spring, and B2 piston upgrades may give back life to your trans.I'd say worth a try,if it doesn't work find a good used one and put the new parts in it.

John,

Try some easy stuff 1st
Have you checked the fluid? level, quality (does it stink)
How about the shift linkage?

What year SD do you have? (to know which tranny)

When my tranny went out, it had 1st and 2nd, yet no 3rd or 4th, and also
noticed that there was metal flakes in the fluid when drained. I needed
to replace it with a good used one.

Hopefully, your tranny doesn't need anything more then a B-2 piston. Do
a search on the B-2 piston, and you should get a list of tranny symptoms.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] tranny troubles

As Kevin suggested, the most common fault on these transmissions is the (infamous) B2 servo.  Check this link:

http://mbz.org/articles/transmission/b2/why/

When was the last time the transmission has been serviced (meaning, filter and fluid change)?  It's possible the filter is a bit clogged, causing a low pressure problem.
