I'd ad to the jumper cable mix:

I make my own, from welding cable.
and I make them long enough, to go from my battery, to 6' behind my car
(or more). and get super good clamps.
Yeah, a set of them costs about 50 bucks, or more, depending on any sales.
Sometimes, you can go by welding shops, or welders, and get their old
leads, that have cracked insulation, for very cheap.
The cracked insulation means nothing to you as a jumper cable.

These, are heavy enough to carry full starting current, if necessary.

We'll leave her in his hands until when/if he decides to drive her home at the end of freshman year.

She seems to be running better now than ever....but.....if YOU were going to make the trip, what would you do to help re-assure your spouse and children they won't be standing outside the guard rail waiting for AAA? 


For example, this will be my opportunity to give my son his first automotive toolbox. What would you put in the toolbox? We've already got the obligatory jumper cables, bottles of this fluid and that fluid, etc.

The other day , Tom had the tranny in his SDL rebuilt as it had been leaking ATF worse & worse .

Victor left the old parts , gaskets etc. on the bench for me to look at and this Torrington bearing kinda jumped out at me .

It has worn so badly on one side the cage was broken and rollers had fallen out .

The up shifts were getting slurpy like and old GM car is .

Glad he had this fixed before we headed out Thursday for a 1,300 mile road trip ! .

Now it shifts very firmly indeed .

Victor replaced the drum seals too , not many tranny overhaulers do that as it's a delicate job , easy to screw up .

Are you *sure* it's not an ATF leak ? .

Don't forget to include a small roll of the fuel hose for the injectors. Hard to find when one decides to leak while on the road.  Don't ask how I know ;-)
