Mt Pleasant, MI.? We (Dana Corp.) had a manufacturing plant there, and visited a few times.
We had a joke, no mountain and it was not pleasant.

No, tan sorry. Have a 79 450SEL also with black leather. The back seat is toast though. Both parts cars are up at my in-law's farm in Mt. Pleasant. I need to run up there and bring them back to part out. Winter project!

Does the 78 280SE parts car have a blue interior? I would like to replace the back seats and driver's seats in my 77 280SE.

It does Nate. I mistyped. The grey ghost is a 1979 300SD (W116). I'm half tempted to rip the whole thing out and put in the manual Euro I have in the '78 280SE Euro parts car.

OOPS ! Kilma II doesn't have an Evil Servo..... sorry ben .
I'd take the blower out or maybe a spare one and take it apart , see if NAPA has the brushes in stock or buy them for 3 X the $ from Kent @ Mercedes' Source . I did this and the instruction booklet was missing a page .
In any case , it's a couple hour job , a spare set of hands is helpful but not mandatory .
If the blower only runs on " high " or occasionally after a bump , the brushes are shot .

Brushes in the blower motor is the first thing to check .
New blowers are now very cheap ~ $100 +/- .
I assume you've done the basic Evil Klima I servo testing ? it _MUST_ travel from one extreme to the other evenly and stop with a thump .
if it groans to a stop at one extreme or the other , it _WILL_ burn up your amplifier ~ it's right behind the glove box liner .

Yeah, the '79 SD will be Klima (I)/AutoTemp II.
The fan should blow at top speed when the "DEF" button is pushed, even if everything else is blown/shorted/broken. It's the mode of last resort, insuring at least a clear windshield for safety's sake, bypassing the servo and amplifier, etc.
If it blows on "DEF", then the blower is good, and the problem is most likely in the servo and/or amplifier. If it doesn't blow in "DEF", and the fuse and fuse contacts are OK, then it could be the blower (possible), a wire or connector supplying power to the blower (somewhat possible), or the button assembly itself (not very possible).
I have, somewhere, a .pdf of the schematic of MB's version of the old Chrysler AutoTemp II. Let me know if you would like a copy of it, and I'll dig it up.
