[diesel_mercedes] Cheap '83 240D in So. Cal.

Orange County , Flea Bay item # 231009139650

Looks good *but* seriously rusty and a bad tranny .

But for the rust I'da bought it and fixed it for resale as the poor running is almost certainly caused by crappo filthy veggie oil .

A used tranny installed is under $1,000 , current tags and decent interior (needs serious cleaning) means it would have been an easy sale once sorted but for the rust .

I think it's junk but is loaded with good bits .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: W-123 300T SLS control valve

I've not seen and T's for a while , that dang valve is way up underneath where the black widow spiders live too .

Keep posting , maybe Brian , Tom or I will find one .

I read an OnLine DIY Tutorial on overhauling it ,it's very simple and the one I read , was done on an incredibly rusty & corroded one , care and patience returned it to *perfect* service ~ the car remained level for a week after shutoff .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Usefull Tools

Indeed ~

My Son bought a Chinese Sawzall @ Harbor Freight and finally convinced me to use it on the hardened steel trunnions in my Metropolitan Nash , it cut them out in 45 seconds , using the pneumatic cutoff tool previously had taken three hours and nearly killed my crappy ancient air compressor .

@ $19.95 it's a bargain no matter how you slice it .

Be sure to only buy the American made Milwaukee branded blades ! .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Battery Failed/ lost key

Sounds about right but still no joy .

If the dogs got them , I'da expected to find the plastic bits of chewed up key tag by now and the metal part nearby .

At this moment all my eggs are in The Classic Center's basket , Tom Hansen hasn't failed me yet .

Besides , yesterday it was only 102° F and me in the middle of an asphalt parking lot with plenty of sun glare so the other Tom (my brother) supervised from the shade in front of the industrial strength swamp cooler as I spent hours sweating like a dog , repairing my Metropolitan FHC , I now once again have an inside rear view mirror and a working (AM only , tube typ) radio to keep me happy as I sweat my way around , I prolly sweated away 5 # , can't do that in the Mercedes with it's ICE COLD R-12 AC now , can I ? =8-^ .
