Re: [diesel_mercedes] Weather

I always keep extra nuts, bolts, washers, and such in a coffee can in the trunk as I keep dropping, losing, breaking, such things whilst doing "maintenance" on my two ladies. I also use my extendable magnet but it can only find 1/2 of the things that drop.

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel in Washington

$2.99 / gallon at Fred Myers. I think it is about time for $2.00 prices in So. Cal. for 2015. If I had room for a bunch of 55 gallon drums, I might just load up on a years supply.

Also, anyone willing to change a headgasket on a 1985 300SD?

Thanks,

[diesel_mercedes] Re: 300 TD over the Tehachapis with very even temp. New Radiator a

As you know the gauge is aprox.  I have a 180 degree thermostat I think.  What ever is stock.  It moved two needle widths up uphill and 6 down hills.  That's all I can say.  Now this is December.  It may be different in July. My air cleaner did get road dirt on it so I need to put in a shroud to cover the gap on the drivers side of the radiator.  Price of the radiator was around 155 with free shipping from ArizonaAZ.  Lawrence Rhodes

Glad you made it and are happy .

What temp. did the gauge read going up the hills ? .

If any of you were having trouble getting a radiator for your pre 81 TD's it seems the 240D Nissans work OK.  I installed mine with a little trouble.....Can one get longer shroud clips?  Passenger side air gap.  Otherwise it seemed to have more even heat than my former older radiator. It did go as cold but not as hot. Didn't replace thermostat. Home in SF now but can't sleep as I drank two Rockstars.  I left Placentia around 9 and got to my house at 4:30am.  .....Good night.....it also seems all radiators for W123's are very similar and all sizes fit one body.  Lawrence Rhodes.....

[diesel_mercedes] Seasonally Appropriate Greetings !

Non Gender or Religeonally specific in case you're a miserable troll like whiner .

It's only four days left until Christmas , I see the NWS says there's a HUGE cold and wet storm brewing and moving from The Pacific Northwet East to dump rain and snow across most of America , batten down the hatches , mix up some egg nog and bake some Krobeli , let the kids out of the cellar and the dog up on the sofa .

My trusty Diesel Sports Coupe sports it annual wreath , this year it has a new light string with tiny LED lamps that twinkle merrily but are way too small .

The old wreaths with 3/4" tall pine cone colored lamps , died , dammit .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: importing gray market cars

The 25 year old rule has been going a long time before 2011 .

The problem is : some states want you to add an exhaust sensor and wire it into your Electronic Fuel Injection .

Then there's the individual inspector who maybe doesn't like the cut of your jib or red cars or old German cars , whatever , that person can really gum up the works .

Then there's the nit wits who are direct importing Range Rovers and BMC Minis , trying to call nearly new ones , 25 + years old ~ Customs has been crushing quite a few of late , not allowing you to export it again as a deterrent .

[diesel_mercedes] Re: diesel purge, fuel filters, valve adjust, oil change before trip

Have a SAFE TRIP Rob ! .

I was just saying to Tom this Evening , I need to find a couple quarts of Diesel Purge and do this , , a blistering hot oil change , a valve adjust and pull all the injectors and pop test them along with my spare bagful , might as well do his 300DS's too .

I looks like The Vintage Motoring Group will have a fun drive Christmas morning ~ I plan to take my metropolitan FHC .

While checking my maintenance records yesterday before an upcoming
holiday trip, I noticed that I needed an oil change and 15K service:
diesel purge, fuel filters, valve adjust, (Air filter is OK) before
leaving on the trip. A little unexpected, yet the oil change can't wait,
and the rest will make it run better.

OK, diesel purge, fuel filters were done yesterday, this morning I'll do
the valves, and change the oil after some errands. It should run pretty
good after all this, and even better after an Italian tuneup on the road.

Safe travels for everyone.
