[diesel_mercedes] Re: SoCal SUV drivers

the real go anywhere bit is; once they loose control, nothing can stop them (anthropomorphic SUV) from going anywhere it damn well wants to go. SUV drivers are very tasty, it is waaaaaay too bad they aren't the rodkill fodder in any given accident involving them. a yummy free meal goes a long way in offseting a bad day.

twas a great cartoon in road and track of a porsche(ah...) driven b-twix two SUVs, it had it's head and tail lights mounted on a pole at each corner, raising them to SUV driver's eye level. said porsche driver was breaking, blinding orbs/busting balls. it was a riot.

on the topic of the hupcaps, are them starz held on from behind by removeable / replaceable clips, or once removed is it dead?
bodyshops say no? even if you supply paint, sand and mask it? maakoo say no? lazy S.O.Bs. can you leave a set somewhere where they will do it some day in near future when they paint another car white? maybe post in related forums where one may be doing such soon, and you can drop them off. maybe someone in the local(ory) benz club or one of the associated bodyshops might give you a group squirt for less than a testical..........
i might be a-paint'n a 560sl white, but only after you obtain one and transplant an SDL 6-pot in it for me :-p

oh, holihappodays and newpyhapyear.....

Hi all and happy new year! Hope the holidays treated you well.

If  you've been with our group for a while, you know that I like to keep our discussions focused on diesel Mercedes cars.

Well, for the first time in our 10+ years, please allow me a moment of self-promotion. Won't happen again anytime soon.

Last year I started a business developing kid's software for Apple's iPad. Our first release is an interactive/animated version of Treasure Island. It features 90 pages of original art and music and is geared towards kids age nine and up. We've been featured by Apple as "New and Noteworthy" and "What's Hot".

You can watch a video teaser for Treasure Island by Cyberia at this link:

You can visit our store page at:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/treasure-island-by-cyberia/id402084526?mt=8

We're running a sale right now that let's you purchase for US$2.99, which is a great deal for 90 pages of pirates, gold, and adventure.

So why am I posting this to diesel_mercedes, a forum not known to cater to 9 year olds? Well, I'm hoping some of you parents and grandparents might have gotten an iPad for the holidays. Maybe you gave one to someone else. Or maybe you know a friend or neighbor who got one. If so, please consider buying a copy of Treasure Island by Cyberia  or forwarding this message to your favorite iPad owner.

Also, if you know a local church, temple, school, hospital, youth program, etc., that has an iPad, I have a limited number of free download codes. I would be happy to give your local organization a free copy for kids to enjoy. Just send an email to me at tr@cyberiamedia.com.

If you've gotten some benefit from our group, please give me a hand and consider buying a copy of Treasure Island by Cyberia  or spreading the word. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Happy New Year,

Taran

[diesel_mercedes] Re: 84 Benz diesel

Nick,

Just to add to what Brian said.

The parts stores (FLAPS) will have your car listed as a "300DT", which
refers to the turbo, as opposed to the "TD" station wagon.
I think that the turbos started in '80, for the 300Ds.

These cars work great for Biodiesel and WVO, though for WVO you'll need
a heated (usually 2 tank) system. Some will argue that you can blend w/o
the heated tank, though I wouldn't recommend it. Secondly, the tank
might be full of crud that will be loosened by Biodiesel and clog up the
filters for a bit.

Get it all sorted out on diesel first.

Hey Gang,

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone on the list.  May we all have a happy, prosperous, and successful 2011.

And, last night, I adjusted the driver's seat in my 89 W124 (a 260E, admittedly, a gasser) so my wife could drive it and when that ordeal was over, I found that I could not get the seat readjusted to my taste because of a failing switch.  I priced new ones at about $115.  Would anyone here happen to have a good used unit from which they'd be willing to part for a reasonable sum of $$?

I had a stuck switch on my 300SD.  The seat would go back but not forward.  As an alternative to having my ankles and wrists surgically extended,  I took the switch out and cleaned the contacts with an old can of TV rotary contact cleaner.  Remember when TVs had rotary switches? The switch is working again.

Figured it out I think and have moved forward.  Removed the rockers and started on the cam.  Removed the tensioner screw/spring from the block and the bolt that holds the plastic guide in.  How in the world do you release the pin that the plastic tensioner rides on?  It isn’t a bolt (or if it is, the DPO may have sheared it off.  HBOL and the FSM are not helpful so far.

This is probably part 0008006975 at http://www.autohausaz.com

Or it could be a hose broken or disconnected.

You can take the door panel off and check the existing part with a hand pump vacuum tool (mityvac or equivalent).

Let us know what you find.
