Re: [diesel_mercedes] THUMPING NOISE

When you bench bleed your new master cylinder do you need 2 or 3 plugs? Max

Before you panic ;

Take the time to look hard at the rear sub frame bushings ~ they'll _look_ fine but have either clean or rusty marks around them if the sub frame is shifting from shot rubber bushings .

It goes down to the metal from end to end with undercoating covering it. So, yeah, its both. I suspected it might be part of the unibody structure as it seems to terminate at the frame looking box up front. Upside down MIG welding. how fun. Anyway, thanks for the input. Besides the welding I am really hoping to find a failed Guibo when I check it out Monday.

Time to pull out the mig welder and get busy if that's a subframe part... on my screen it's hard to tell if that crack is metal or undercoating.

Re: [diesel_mercedes] THUMPING NOISE

Not quite sure what you mean Nate. I had a moving observer follow me as I accelerated about 10 or 12 times and they could see nothing unusual in the behavior of the tires. Where should I lok to find these clean (or rusty) marks?

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '82 240D Automatic

202 miles , mostly with AC and SWMBO driving In Town , 22.3 MPG .

No Diesel Kleen used .

Just bought a new bottle of ' Silver for Summer ' Diesel Kleen Cetane boost and after adding 3 Oz. and filling the tank I fired it up to check the ATF (down about a coffee cup) and as it was idling and mixing the new fuel & GoGo Juice mix , the engine smoothed out and speeded up about 200 RPM .
It (Diesel Kleen) really helps with the low compression # 1 cylinder .

AutoZone sells it for $9.99 / bottle , if you're careful about measuring it out it really goes a long ways and increases fuel economy whilst boosting power at the same time ~ a co$t efficient win-win .
339,019 miles .

[diesel_mercedes] Digital Mercedes

Temperature gauge , cruise control , Klima II HVAC , Becker radio.......

All my cars use only one key for everything .

I *do* have the Valet keys but rarely use them .

Good to hear Nate - I too am a 3 keyed lock un-locker....and it's awesome to be able to lock it again....anyone who sees the car lock and unlock usually notices the decidedly analog behavior as the locks slowly engage/dis-engage....and are shocked to learn they're vacuum operated. As far as I know, the only "digital" device in the entire car (as of 1984), is the temp gauge - which is spot on correct to this day.

I've been very lucky with the AC so far this summer - once I got it properly charged it's working well enough that I'm going to leave it be....but that doesn't mean I can't visit the Klima folks - it'll just have to wait until after I get back from taking my son to Florida Tech next week into the following week - for that trek, we're renting a Ford F150 to drive down and flying back....
