[diesel_mercedes] 87 300 TD Front strut replacement

Anyone attempted this?

With or without a spring compression tool?

Giving thought to trying this using jack stands and a floor jack.

Thanks,
Rusty

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Silvia '84 300SD - off with her head!

Where's Ben (Detroit)? Didn't he just replace the head on one of his cars?
I haven't had to do this on my MB, though did on my Toyota PU a few
years back.

Today Silvia gets towed home to soon to be surgical lab that is currently my garage. I've managed to cajole my diesel literate brother to help me with a head removal (and hopefully a rebuild)from my 300SD. Not sure exactly when this will begin (w/in a week to 10 days), but most likely you'll be hearing from us in the near future....pics will come as I get a chance to take any of interest....based on what I've learned so far, as long as the head is not too worn and no cracks, it is re-buildable. New ones are on offer from MetricMotors in CA for $1100 + $550 core - I'm sure they're nice, but hoping I don't go that route.

At this point I'm going to (try) to repair what I've got on hand, but won't count out the offer if its still open and needed further down the road. I really do love this diesel minded community and appreciate everyone's support...
